About Zeno
An unprecedented energy transition has begun. To meet 2040 net zero goals, over 2 billion electric two-wheelers (motorcycles) must be sold and $11 trillion in fuel consumption replaced. Zeno is building a tech platform to electrify this two-wheeler market, currently responsible for more than 4% of the world's GHG emissions. Our mission is to accelerate the energy transition and democratize the benefits across Africa, India, and Latin America. With a focus on East Africa as a starting point, Zeno is building a new energy ecosystem with ground-up development of a fundamentally better electric motorcycle and associated battery swap network to drive a better experience for our customers.
We are looking for audacious, creative, and committed people to join us on this important mission. You will be joining a bold team consisting of leading engineers, operators, and entrepreneurs hailing from companies that include Tesla, Apple, Google, SRAM, Ola Electric, Dott, LiveWire, Lucid, Bolt, Microsoft, and SafeBoda, among others. Zeno has raised Series A funding of $25M from some of the world's foremost mobility and climate investors, including Toyota Ventures, Congruent Ventures and LowerCarbon Capital.
The Role
We are looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer Charging Systems to Own the electrical design of our EV charging products, three-phase industrial control panels, power & control circuits, interlocks, protections, and system bring-up. You'll translate requirements into safe, compliant, manufacturable designs and work cross-functionally with hardware, firmware, manufacturing, supply chain, and customer teams.
What you'll do
- Own panel & system design: three-phase LV industrial control panels and power/control circuits aligned to UL/IEC/NFPA standards; define interlocks, protections, earthing/grounding, creepage/clearance, IP/IK needs.
- Schematics & documentation: produce one-/three-line diagrams, detailed wiring diagrams, I/O lists, cable schedules, terminal plans, and panel GA/layouts; maintain clean revision control (ECR/ECO) and design history.
- Logic & architecture: create HLD/LLD and flowcharts for electrical/electronics logic; define PLC/HMI/servo architecture and control interfaces with firmware and BMS/PCS subsystems.
- CAD & routing: 2D/3D panel layout and electrical harness/wire routing; enclosure packaging in collaboration with mechanical teams.
- Component selection: specify switchgear (ACB/MCB/MCCB/isolators/contactors/relays), meters/instruments/CT-PTs, fuses, power supplies, protection relays, surge/EMI filters, connectors, and accessories per standards and SCCR needs.
- BOM & proposals: prepare technical proposals, detailed BOMs, and procurement specifications; support VE/DFM to optimize cost, reliability, and serviceability.
- Verification & validation: plan and execute FAT/SAT and lab tests (continuity, insulation resistance, HIPOT, functional, thermal, EMC pre-checks); analyze results and release reports.
- Lifecycle ownership: convert customer/market requirements into product features and workflows; drive POC prototype MVP production release with QMS discipline.
- Cross-functional support: partner with production, SCM, vendor development, installation/commissioning, and customer support to resolve build and field issues quickly.
- Quality & reviews: coordinate drawing/checking methods, monitor review schedules, and uphold PLM/PDM hygiene.
What you bring
- 8+ years in electrical design for industrial/electro-mechanical products (power electronics, control panels, automation, or related).
- Standards & compliance: working knowledge of UL/IEC and NFPA 79; familiarity with CE safety/EMC principles and hazardous area basics (ATEX/IECEx).
- Tools: SolidWorks / SolidWorks Electrical or equivalent for 3D/2D and routing; AutoCAD (Electrical). Experience with PLCs/servo/HMI environments (Siemens/AB/Beckhoff/etc.).
- Calculations: cable sizing, derating, short-circuit/SCCR, protection coordination, voltage-drop, and heat/airflow considerations.
- Documentation: crisp English communication, strong presentation skills, and ability to explain designs to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Ways of working: autonomous, hands-on, customer-focused problem solver; experienced with QMS, PDLC, PLM, and ticketing/wiki tools (Jira/Confluence).

Nice to have
- Experience with EV charging ecosystems and standards (e.g., IEC 61851, ISO/IEC communication layers), PSU/PCS interfacing, and BMS/EMS integration.
- Exposure to UL 508A, BS7671 panel design, EMC/EMI test mitigation, DFMEA, and field commissioning/safety practices (LOTO).
Benefits
- Competitive salary based on experience.
- Company-sponsored healthcare plan.
- Opportunity to build a world-class supply chain driving the EV revolution.
- Join a mission-driven team shaping the trillion-dollar transition of two-wheelers to electric.
