Primary Responsibilities - EGR Valves (Automotive)
- Own end-to-end design of EGR valve components from concept to SOP.
- Develop valve geometry to achieve required exhaust gas flow and response.
- Design poppet / rotary valve mechanisms with reliable sealing performance.
- Define leakage limits and ensure compliance through design validation.
- Select and validate materials and coatings for high temperature, corrosion, and soot resistance.
- Address thermal expansion, heat soak, and fatigue life issues in valve design.
- Support flow bench testing and correlate results with design intent.
- Work with system teams on high-pressure and low-pressure EGR architectures.
- Ensure valve performance supports NOx reduction targets under all operating conditions.
- Support CFD and thermal simulations to optimise flow and temperature distribution.
- Define critical dimensions and tolerances for manufacturability and durability.
- Drive design for manufacturability (DFM) and assembly (DFA).
- Lead DV / PV testing, including endurance, thermal cycling, vibration, and soot tests.
- Perform root cause analysis of field or test failures and implement corrective actions.
- Prepare and maintain engineering drawings, specifications, and BOMs.
- Support APQP activities including DFMEA, PFMEA, and control plans.
- Coordinate with suppliers for castings, machined parts, seals, and fasteners.
- Support prototype builds, pilot runs, and mass production stabilisation.
- Participate in customer technical reviews and audits.
- Provide technical inputs during RFQ, feasibility, and cost optimisation stages.
- Ensure compliance with IATF 16949 and customer-specific requirements.
- Benchmark competitor EGR valve designs and identify improvement opportunities.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives for quality, cost, and performance
Additional Responsibilities:
- Support cross-functional coordination with calibration, vehicle integration, quality, and manufacturing teams.
- Assist in benchmarking competitor EGR valve designs and identifying improvement opportunities.
- Contribute to cost reduction and value engineering initiatives without impacting performance or durability.
- Support change management activities (ECR / ECO) during development and production phases.
- Participate in customer meetings, audits, and technical reviews as required.
- Support resolution of field issues and customer complaints related to EGR valve performance.
- Assist in defining test standards and validation methodologies for EGR valves.
- Support supplier technical reviews and quality improvement initiatives.
- Ensure timely documentation updates in PLM / ERP systems.
- Support knowledge sharing and technical mentoring within the engineering team.
- Contribute to new technology evaluation related to emission systems and future regulations.
- Support internal and external audits related to quality and compliance.
- Assist in preparation of technical inputs for RFQs and business proposals.
- Participate in continuous improvement (Kaizen) initiatives related to quality, cost, and delivery.
- Ensure adherence to company engineering standards and best practices.
