This is a remote position.

About the Role

Webgility is already the best tool for automating e-commerce accounting. Now, we are building a White Glove service team to help our customers get it right the first time. We are looking for an experienced Accountant who has worked in the trenches of e-commercesomeone who knows that an Amazon Settlement report never matches the bank deposit perfectly without the right adjustments.

You will be the Lead Accountant for our customers, helping them onboard, cleaning up their historical data, and teaching them how to close their books using our software. You will essentially be acting as an outsourced Controller for Shopify and Amazon brands.

What You'll Do (Responsibilities)

  • Design the Financial Tech Stack for new customers. You will determine how their sales channels (Shopify, Amazon, Walmart) should map to their GL accounts in QuickBooks/Xero.
  • Set up Clearing Accounts and Holding Accounts to manage timing differences between sales dates and payout dates.
  • Many customers come to us with broken books. You will perform historical data clean-up, identifying duplicate transactions, missing merchant fees, and unrecorded COGS (Cost of Goods Sold).
  • Reconcile past months Amazon Seller Central settlements against bank feeds to ensure the books match reality.
  • Guide customers through their first 3 month-end closes.
  • Troubleshoot all transactions where the payment processor (Stripe/PayPal) and the cart (Shopify) don't align.
  • Advise customers on Sales Tax configuration (e.g., Are you using Avalara, or do we need to map the tax liability account manually).
  • Create Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the customer's internal bookkeeper to follow after your engagement ends.


Requirements

What We Are Looking For (Requirements)
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Commerce.
  • Experience: 35 years of hands-on accounting experience, preferably in a Client Accounting Services (CAS) role at a CPA firm or as an in-house accountant for an e-commerce brand.

Technical Accounting Skills (Must Have):

  • Mastery of QuickBooks Online and Desktop
  • Familiarity with the backend of Shopify (payouts reports), Amazon Seller Central (settlement reports), and eBay.
  • Understanding of e-commerce concepts: Gross vs. Net Sales, Merchant Fees, Chargebacks, Returns, and COGS (Cost of Goods Sold).
  • You understand the difference between Cash vs. Accrual inventory accounting.
  • You understand Gross-to-Net logic: Why a $100 sale results in a $96.50 deposit, and how to book that $3.50 fee correctly.

Soft Skills:

  • Consultative Mindset: Ability to explain complex accounting concepts to non-accountant business owners without using jargon.
  • Patience & Empathy: You enjoy helping people solve problems and can de-escalate frustrated customers.
Bonus Points (Nice to Have)
  • CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or EA (Enrolled Agent) candidacy.
  • Experience working with international clients (handling multi-currency/FX gains & losses).

This position is 100% remote in India, and a reliable internet connection is necessary to complete job duties.
