About the Role:
As a Director - SEO, you will be responsible for organic search performance within CleverTap. You will report into a VP Growth Marketing and collaborate with a Head of Paid Media to drive digital channel performance as a whole.
You will be responsible for maintaining and growing CleverTap's organic search equity, covering technical, content and backlink strategy.
Your goal is to increase CleverTap's search dominance globally and on a specific market by market basis in order to drive significant sales outcomes: by introducing new target customers to the site, your ultimate aim is to drive sales qualified opportunities and closed won contracts for the company.
You will own our organic Google, Bing, and other search engine strategies. You will directly be responsible for achieving our organic search acquisition targets. You are expected to set your own strategies, and deliver results against them.
In order to deliver this they - you a small team of in house, agency and freelance personnel. You additionally interface into a product and content marketing team who produce other types of content which can be used for SEO purposes, including link magnets and other types of long form pieces. Finally, you have access to engineering resources to deliver technical strategy. You are expected to be able to manage a large content pipeline and deliver content at scale.
What you will do:
You will build a scalable, global, organic marketing engine for CleverTap that introduces target customers to the CleverTap brand. Your goal will be to maximize target keyword SERP dominance globally for CleverTap, ensuring full funnel coverage, and building page 1 positions by market for highly valuable keyword sets.
To do this you'll -
- Optimize the site technically: you should display significant comfort with the technical side of SEO, from crawling to site architecture improvements to effective communication with engineers
- Set standout and deliver effective content and keyword strategies: you'll be comfortable with keyword analysis, setting plans that result in strong page 1 SERP presence for CleverTap, and fanatical about onpage hygiene and structured markup strategies. You'll leverage content marketing output to find additional opportunities for SERP dominance
- Build backlinks and set linking strategies: from optimizing internal linking and site depth, to building link magnets to strategically building links via agencies on a per market basis to drive per market rankings, link management will be a core part of your playbook
You will own the organic search funnel strategy end-to-end and should work closely with your counterpart in paid media to deliver combined search and social strategies in order to maximize channel effectiveness and reach, ideally designing a coherent cross-search funnel.
You will additionally collaborate with regional marketing teams in order to ensure that your campaigns capture the benefits of their unique market perspective: from keyword, to language to competitor and creative strategy.
You will assist these leads to -
- Manage mature markets: defend against competitors, deliver systemic, predictable growth, and cement CleverTap's position as market leader. Your focus will be uncovering and then dominating positions 1-3 for high value keywords within these markets, and collaborating on smart brand campaigns that drive awareness and links
- Execute go-to-market strategies in new regions: as CleverTap increases dominance globally you will be a key player in their market entry strategy. You'll focus on localizing successful SEO strategies from a keyword set, language and landing page perspective, looking to drive more relevant eyeballs from a regional and global perspective
In order to execute on your plans, you will additionally work closely with colleagues in the product and content marketing function, leveraging and influencing their output to drive your results, increase your reach and maximize the efficiency of your messaging. You should have a close understanding of the likely needs and search sensitivities of your customers and collaborate with these marketing colleagues to create compelling content which matches those needs. In order to do this effectively you should support them with SEO training, SEO QA and a comprehensive briefing template and process.
You'll additionally have access to freelance copywriters to create compelling and valuable content with a significant shelf life. You'll have access to budget and an agency to build backlink campaigns. You'll be comfortable with the operational side of SEO as well as the strategic, and work to increase throughput, refine briefs and translate needs coherently to engineers. You'll work collaboratively with PR to generate and realise SEO value.
Finally, you will be responsible for working closely with sales leaders. You'll work closely with them to assess the quality of your output and to look at ways to feedback sales cycle data into your strategies. You and they will work with marketing and sales operations leaders in order to ensure you have the data and funnel visibility you require to deliver your goals.
What are we looking for
The successful candidate will have both B2C and B2B organic search experience, including experience of working on a large site (100k+ unique visitors per month), operating on a global scale. This should be supported by an understanding of the different localization efforts required in order to penetrate new markets.
You should be highly experienced in organic search with a significant degree of comfort in executing technical and content driven SEO strategies. The ideal candiadte should be comfortable with ramping up a content production machine, sourcing and briefing freelancers and accelerating site rankings onto page 1, and positions 1-3.
You need to be an excellent communicator: capable of translating complex SEO concepts into engineering tasks, sales people outputs and C-level comfort and understanding of strategy and progress. Ideally you can conduct training across the organization in order to ensure that multiple teams touching the website have a clear understanding of SEO protocols.
You should additionally be comfortable with a full funnel content marketing function, and understand the value of working collaboratively with content marketing to generate video and text based content in order to augment and support SEO performance. You should have worked closely with paid search leaders in the past in order to deliver total search approaches, and should be comfortable working closely with PR in order to realize SEO value on top of brand value.
You should be highly data driven and process orientated, with the ability to put in place scalable processes that improve cross functional collaboration and allow them to ramp up content delivered from freelancers. You should be able to set long term SEO roadmaps and deliver against them, tracking and reporting on results as they go.
You should be comfortable working with engineers to deliver technical fixes, breaking down audit findings into deliverable roadmaps and helping QA engineering outputs from an SEO perspective.
Ideally they would have experience of working across multiple geographies, cultures and languages. You should be additionally comfortable with working in a distributed commercial organization and comfortable working directly with sales to drive end to end commercial results.
This role would best suit someone who is highly hands on with a strong bias to action with great attention to detail and a high level of influence in order to deliver effective results.
Must have:
- 6 years + of SEO experience
- B2B SaaS experience
- B2C SEO experience
- Strong grasp of technical SEO principles: including site architecture, crawling, indexing and optimization
- Comfort with product, blog and bottom of funnel page creation and optimization
- Extremely comfortable with content strategies for SEO, including keyword research, onpage optimization and content strategy optimization
- Operations minded: comfortable running a content factory
- A proficient operator: able to distill complex SEO strategies into writer briefs, generalist SEO trainings, content playbooks and tickets for engineers
- Able to translate SEO complexity into clear goals and deliverables for cross functional teams
- Able to do the same and communicate trade offs and choices clearly to senior stakeholders
- A good communicator able to communicate needs, priorities and execution quality required to engineers
- Results orientated: able to link traffic and keyword ranking goals to tangible deliverables in terms of sales qualified opportunities and ARR outputs
- Data driven approach to SEO: comfortable building dashboards and routinely reporting metrics; plus judicious use of data in order to make SEO decisions
- Comfort with CVR and A/B testing approaches within the realm of SEO
- Experience interfacing into PR / working collaboratively with PR
