Job Title: Head of Engineering

Reports to: CTO

Position Overview

Our client is a prominent international investment group headquartered in Bangkok, Thailand, with a diversified portfolio across multiple sectors. They hold a dominant position in the Asian market and maintain a strategic, heavy investment focus on software development and the iGaming industry. To fuel expansion into new markets, they are establishing a new, high-caliber engineering division and seek a visionary technical leader to build it from the ground up.

We are searching for a Head of Engineering to spearhead the creation and leadership of a new, full-stack engineering team. This is a foundational role for an executive-level technologist who is equally adept at hands-on coding, strategic architecture, and scaling high-performance teams. You will be responsible for remotely building and managing a distributed team of approximately 40 engineers, expert in modern web development (ReactJS) and robust backend systems (Java), to develop innovative products that will drive our client's expansion.

Key Responsibilities

1. Strategic Leadership & Build-Out:

- Define the technical vision, strategy, and roadmap for the new engineering division aligned with business objectives for market expansion.

- Design and execute the plan to recruit, hire, and onboard a world-class, globally distributed team of up to 40 frontend (ReactJS) and backend (Java) engineers.

- Establish and nurture a remote-first engineering culture, processes, and best practices to ensure excellence, agility, and collaboration across time zones.

2. Technical Execution & Oversight:

- Remain deeply hands-on: architect core systems, write critical code, and conduct rigorous code reviews in both ReactJS (Frontend) and Java (Spring/Spring Boot) to ensure quality and set the technical standard.

- Make pivotal technology stack and architectural decisions, ensuring scalability, security, and maintainability for high-traffic, globally accessible applications.

- Own the entire software development lifecycle, driving delivery of high-quality products on time.

3. Team Management & Development:

- Provide mentorship, career development, and performance management for a distributed team of engineering managers and senior individual contributors.

- Foster a collaborative, results-driven, and inclusive remote work environment that attracts and retains top global talent.

- Manage departmental budgets, resource allocation, and vendor relationships.

Required Qualifications

- Proven Leadership: 10+ years of software engineering experience with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role (Head of Engineering, Director of Engineering, or equivalent) managing teams of 40 engineers.

- Technical Expertise (Hands-On): Expert-level proficiency in ReactJS and its ecosystem, combined with deep, current expertise in Java (Spring/Spring Boot). You must be able to architect, code, and review in these technologies.

- Team Builder: Demonstrable success in building and scaling high-performing, distributed engineering teams from scratch or rapidly growing existing ones.

- Full-Cycle Ownership: Experience owning the end-to-end delivery of complex, customer-facing software products.

- Strategic Mindset: Ability to translate business goals into technical strategy and execute effectively in a remote setting.

Nice-to-Have

- Prior experience in the Gaming, FinTech, or real money gaming sector is a significant advantage.

- Proven experience designing and operating scalable, low-latency systems handling high volumes of concurrent users and transactions.

- A strong plus for candidates who can bring an existing, high-performing pod or team (e.g., 5-15 engineers) that can integrate into this new division.

- Understanding of software and iGaming market dynamics in target expansion regions (e.g., LatAm, Europe, Africa).
