Role Overview:

The Director Accounting (Record-to-Report) is a senior finance leader responsible for the end-to-end Record-to-Report (R2R) process, ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of the company's global financial records.

This role provides functional ownership and people leadership across a large, global accounting & controls organization covering International Accounting, Technical Accounting, Global Close & Cost Accounting, Global SOX and Internal controls. The Director ensures a timely, high-quality close, strong internal controls, compliance with GAAP/IFRS, and audit readiness, and acts as the first line of review prior to consolidation.

The role is the second-in-command in finance for the center, focusing on the controllership function while the Senior Director has overall finance oversight. The role also has thick functional relationship with the corporate/global controllership team for alignment on policies and standards (as common in global companies).

Key Responsibilities

Financial Close and Consolidation

  • Own and oversee the end-to-end Record-to-Report (R2R) process, from transaction recording through reconciliation and close.
  • Ensure timely and accurate processing of journal entries, accruals, allocations, intercompany accounting, and period-end close activities.
  • Oversee balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring completeness, accuracy, timely resolution of reconciling items, and appropriate documentation.
  • Establish and enforce close calendars, SLAs, quality metrics, and governance for R2R activities across regions.
  • Drive standardization and consistency of processes across global teams.
  • Act as the first line of review for outputs prior to consolidation and external reporting.

Financial Accuracy, Compliance & Technical Accounting

  • Ensure the accuracy, completeness, and integrity of global financial records.
  • Oversee accounting operations in compliance with US GAAP, IFRS, and local statutory requirements.
  • Provide leadership and oversight for technical accounting assessments, accounting policies, and complex or non-routine transactions.
  • Ensure financial decisions and reporting are based on reliable, compliant, and well-controlled financial data.
  • Review financial statements and key accounting judgments prior to consolidation and external reporting.

Internal Controls, SOX & Audit Readiness

  • Design, implement, and maintain strong internal controls over R2R processes, including SOX compliance.
  • Ensure prudent controls are in place to minimize errors, misstatements, and financial risk.
  • Coordinate with external auditors and internal audit teams; lead responses to audit findings and remediation efforts.
  • Ensure high-quality statutory accounts, audit reports, reconciliations, and compliance documentation.

Cross-Functional & External Stakeholder Partnership

  • Partner closely with FP&A, Tax, Treasury, Legal, Internal Audit, and Systems teams to ensure alignment across the financial ecosystem.
  • Serve as a primary accounting contact for external auditors, tax authorities, and regulators related to R2R and statutory reporting.
  • Support strategic initiatives such as new entity setups, market expansions, accounting changes, and system implementations.
  • Deliver accurate statutory financial statements with compliant regulatory requirements.

Process Excellence & Transformation

  • Drive continuous improvement in R2R efficiency, close timelines, reconciliation quality, and aging of open items.
  • Leverage automation, ERP enhancements, and close tools to improve scalability, transparency, and control.
  • Establish KPIs to monitor close quality, control effectiveness, audit outcomes, and operational performance.
  • Ensure consistent accounting policies, procedures, and documentation across all geographies.

Leadership & People Management

  • Lead and develop 100+ accounting professionals through next line leadership, fostering a culture of accountability, quality, and continuous improvement.
  • Set clear expectations, performance goals, and ownership across R2R, technical accounting, and close functions.
  • Coach and develop senior leaders, support succession planning and talent development.
  • Promote strong ethical standards and financial stewardship across the organization.

Qualifications & Experience

  • CPA / CA is strongly preferred. MBA Finance would be an additional asset, but a strong accounting qualification is paramount.
  • Related certifications in internal audit or control (CIA/CISA) is a plus
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience with deep R2R ownership.
  • Proven experience leading large, global accounting teams through layered management.
  • Strong expertise in GAAP, IFRS, SOX, internal controls, and audit management.
  • Demonstrated success managing complex, multi-entity close environments.
  • Experience in global shared services or GCC environments.
  • Hands on experience in SAP and close transformation.
  • Strong executive communication and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Exceptional rigor in ensuring accuracy of financial data, compliance and controls.
