Job Purpose

The Digital Product Owner SME Self-Service & Sales will lead the development and roll-out of a new digital self-service and sales platform for the Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) segment. This role focuses on designing and delivering a best-in-class SME digital experience. The platform will initially support self-service capabilities and later evolve into a full digital sales and merchant onboarding channel.

Operating within a centralized development model, the Product Owner will work with central engineering teams to build platform capabilities, while OpCos drive product marketing and adoption. The role requires product management expertise, strong stakeholder engagement, and a deep understanding of SME customer needs.

Key Responsibilities

Product Strategy & Roadmap Development

  • Define the vision, strategy, and roadmap for the SME self-service and sales platform.
  • Understand 14 Sub-Saharan Africa market dynamics, customer behaviours, and growth models.
  • Prioritize features based on business value, user needs, and technical feasibility.
  • Align with central engineering teams on development priorities and enable OpCos to drive adoption.

End-to-End Digital Experience & Platform Development

  • Own the digital customer journey from onboarding to self-service and digital sales.
  • Lead feature development for account management, billing, support, and transactions.
  • Build foundations for future merchant onboarding and sales enablement.
  • Collaborate with UX/UI teams for seamless SME experience.

Stakeholder & Cross-Team Collaboration

  • Bridge central development teams and local OpCo business units.
  • Equip OpCos with go-to-market strategies, training, and adoption frameworks.
  • Collaborate with engineering, marketing, and customer service teams for smooth rollouts.

Platform Performance & Continuous Improvement

  • Define and track KPIs for adoption, customer satisfaction, and conversions.
  • Use data-driven insights to improve platform features.
  • Gather feedback from OpCos and SMEs to inform iterations.

Digital Sales & Merchant Onboarding (Future Scope)

  • Develop a roadmap for merchant onboarding and advanced self-service.
  • Enable digital channels for SMEs to purchase services, manage subscriptions, and access financial products.

Qualifications & Experience

  • 8+ years of experience in digital product management, preferably in self-service platforms, fintech, or B2B solutions.
  • Proven experience delivering customer-facing digital platforms at scale.
  • Strong understanding of SME customer needs.
  • Experience working in centralized development models with local-market execution.
  • Knowledge of agile methodologies, backlog management, and sprint planning.
  • Familiarity with MarTech, customer lifecycle tools, and digital adoption frameworks.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science/Engineering, Marketing, or related fields.
