About The Role
We are seeking a highly experienced and motivated Senior DevOps Engineer to join our dynamic team at C&R Software. In this role, you will serve as a vital link between our product development teams and the Production Operations (ProdOps) SRE/Support teams. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure the seamless operation, continuous improvement, and reliability of our cloud-based applications and services. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to identify operational gaps, automate processes, and implement best practices in cloud infrastructure management, security, and performance optimization. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Java application support, AWS cloud services, and infrastructure automation, with a proactive approach to problem-solving and a passion for operational excellence.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, preferably gained within a financial services environment.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Lead or Senior ProdOps or DevOps Engineer, with significant exposure to Java-based application stacks in AWS environments.
- Proven expertise in Java application development and support, with a solid understanding of supporting enterprise-scale applications.
- AWS certification is mandatory, with hands-on experience in managing AWS cloud infrastructure.
- Deep knowledge of AWS network constructs such as EC2, S3, VPC, Security Groups, and Route Tables, along with secure connectivity mechanisms like VPNs, Zero Trust models, and proxies.
- Experience with scripting languages including Shell, Perl, Python, or Ruby, and proficiency with CI/CD tools such as Terraform and CloudFormation for automation and deployment tasks.
- Preferred certifications include Red Hat Certified Systems Administrator (RHCSA) and extensive experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL).
- Familiarity with development methodologies including Scrum, Agile, Kanban, and test-driven development, along with tools like Jira, Confluence, Jenkins, and Puppet.
- Experience supporting service requests, incident management, change management, and release processes within development and production environments.
- Excellent communication skills, with a proven ability to document technical processes, workflows, and operational procedures clearly and effectively.
- Strong analytical skills to assess risks, benefits, and opportunities associated with technical solutions.
- Knowledge of security principles, server vulnerability remediation, and secrets management practices.
- Working knowledge of database concepts, SQL, and interfacing with database operations, particularly within AWS Postgres Aurora/RDS environments.
- Familiarity with containerization technologies such as Kubernetes, infrastructure as code, cluster/server autoscaling, and load balancing.
Responsibilities
- Act as the bridge between product development and ProdOps SRE/Support teams, ensuring continuity of service, ongoing improvement, and technical excellence to facilitate efficient product evolution and outstanding client experience outcomes.
- Work collaboratively across multiple teams to identify operational gaps, focusing on metrics, automation, cost/risk management, performance, and cloud best practices.
- Partner with Project Managers and Scrum Masters to gather, estimate, prioritize, and deliver technical project requirements, ensuring timely and high-quality delivery.
- Serve as Level 3 support on a shift basis, owning incident escalations within defined SLAs and resolving complex issues promptly.
- Define, document, and maintain standard runbooks, operating procedures, system information, and architecture diagrams to ensure operational consistency and knowledge sharing.
- Perform periodic release deployments across development, QA, and production environments, adhering to client-maintained windows, primarily Sunday mornings (US CST).
- Maintain awareness of industry trends, security vulnerabilities, and advancements in AWS and cloud services to continuously enhance operational capabilities.
- Collaborate with architecture teams to optimize cloud infrastructure, implement automation, and improve system reliability and performance.
- Support and improve CI/CD pipelines, scripting, and automation tools to streamline deployment and operational workflows.
- Engage with security teams to ensure compliance with security principles, vulnerability remediation, and secrets management best practices.
