Role summary

The Design & Evaluation Engineer will be responsible for designing mechanical components and test fixtures, supporting UAV subsystem development, performing evaluation tests, and generating engineering documentation. The role requires strong CAD skills, hands-on testing capability, and a solid understanding of UAV structures, propulsion systems, and integration.

Key Responsibilities

Design jigs, fixture and test stand for integration and evaluation of UAVs and sub systems.

Design mechanical and electromechanical fixtures for static, dynamic and environmental tests.

Develop load application mechanisms and measurement interfaces.

Develop 3D CAD models and 2D drawings for UAV components and ground/test fixtures.

Perform tolerance analysis, material selection, and manufacturability checks.

Integration of instrumentation (strain gauges, load cells, torque sensors, IMU mounts).

Plan and execute tests for propulsion systems, airframes and Iron bird platforms.

Work closely with cross-functional teams to resolve integration challenges.

Conduct performance evaluation of UAV mechanical subsystemsstructural, propulsion, landing gear, etc.

Support flight test preparation, data collection, and post-test analysis.

Conduct basic structural analysis (hand calculations, FEA exposure is an advantage).

Interpret test data and provide engineering conclusions.

Generate detailed integration documents, checklists, test procedures, test reports, and compliance documents.

Support root-cause analysis and corrective actions for system failures or anomalies.

Collaborate with vendors for prototype fabrication (CNC, 3D printing, sheet metal, composites).

Required Skills & Qualifications

Bachelor's in mechanical / aerospace engineering (or related).

25 years of experience in mechanical design, test engineering, or UAV development.

Proficiency in CAD software (NX, Fusion 360 or equivalent).

Experience designing of fixtures, jigs, mounts, and structural components.

Knowledge of materials (aluminium, composites, plastics) and manufacturing processes.

Ability to interpret technical drawings and create comprehensive documentation.

Hands-on experience with mechanical testing, measurement tools and data acquisition.

Understanding of UAV structures, propulsion and basic aerodynamics (added advantage).

Preferred / Good-to-Have

Experience with UAV platforms, multirotor or fixed-wing design.

Knowledge of FEA tools and simulation workflows.

Experience with test instrumentation (load cells, NI DAQ, strain gauges).

Personal Attributes

Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and documentation skills.

Ability to work in a fast-paced R&D environment.

High attention to detail and a safety-first mindset.

Willingness to be hands-on during builds, tests, and integration.
