Job Description

Vedanta is a $30bn revenue and $10bn in profit organization and further plans to invest $20bn in 4-5 years time in the expansion of their brown field and some green field capacity of Oil & Gas, Renewable energy, display glass, semiconductor, mining and smelting.

Vedanta Limited operates a 5 MTPA (million tonnes per annum) capacity Alumina refinery and an associated 220 MW captive power plant at Lanjigarh (Kalahandi district, Odisha). The refinery feeds Vedanta's aluminum smelters at Jharsuguda in Odisha and at BALCO in Korba, Chhattisgarh. Our vision is to build one of the safest, largest single-location Alumina refineries with more than 6 MTPA capacity and among the lowest-cost Alumina producers, with compliance, ethics, and governance as the fundamental values of the business, aimed at delivering superior returns to all stakeholders.

The Deputy Head Power Plant will lead the operations of a 220MW Captive Power Plant supporting an integrated Alumina Refinery. The role demands strategic oversight of power generation, internal power distribution, surplus power sales, coal and ash handling systems, water availability from Kesinga Pump House and compliance with industry-specific environmental and safety standards. The incumbent will ensure uninterrupted power supply to critical alumina processes while optimizing cost and operational efficiency.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure uninterrupted power supply to the alumina refinery and associated units.
  • Monitor plant performance metrics including PLF, heat rate, auxiliary consumption, and emissions.
  • Manage surplus power sales through open access or bilateral agreements.
  • Interface with SLDC, DISCOMs, and regulatory bodies for scheduling, compliance, and settlements.
  • Oversee end-to-end coal logistics including sourcing, unloading, stacking, and feeding.
  • Optimize coal inventory and consumption in line with production needs.
  • Manage dry and wet ash handling systems ensuring safe disposal and utilization.
  • Ensure compliance with MoEF & CC guidelines on ash utilization and disposal.
  • Drive reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) and root cause analysis (RCA) for chronic issues.
  • Plan and execute annual shutdowns and capital maintenance activities.
  • Ensure strict adherence to safety protocols and environmental norms.
  • Foster skill development, succession planning, and performance culture.

DESIRED ATTRIBUTES

Educational Qualifications and Experience:

  • B.E./B.Tech in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering/ PGD in Thermal Power Plant Engineering
  • 15+ years of experience in thermal power plant operations, preferably in captive setups.
  • Experience in alumina or metal industry utilities shall be preferred.
  • Strong understanding of power trading, coal logistics, and ash management.

Educational criteria (Mandatory)

  • Minimum 60% and above in all academics.
  • No gap in education activities (only one year allowed either between 12th & Graduation or graduation & Post graduation)
  • No gap in employment is preferred.
