PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
To ensure robust statutory compliance management with a primary focus on Tata Motors operations, while also supporting broader initiatives as needed. This includes monitoring legal obligations and regulatory changes, managing digital compliance tools, engaging with internal stakeholders and external partners, and conducting regular reviews, audits, and on-ground assessments to proactively mitigate risks and promote a strong culture of compliance across the organization. To handle other legal initiatives, such as managing litigations, drafting, negotiating contracts, advise various business team on legal issues, etc.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Compliance monitoring: Ensure compliance with applicable statutory requirements under labour, industrial, environmental, safety, and corporate laws.
- Monitor compliance across manufacturing plants, depots, warehouses, and sales & marketing offices, ensuring timely actions and corrective measures wherever required.
- Stay updated on legal and regulatory changes that impact the organization.
- Track and interpret legal and regulatory updates from ministries, labour departments, CPCBs/SPCBs, etc.; ensure circulation of applicable updates to relevant stakeholders and ensure their implementation.
- Oversee the implementation and usage of the compliance tool to track legal obligations. Manage and enhance the digital compliance reporting tool, including uploading legal updates, mapping site-specific requirements, and ensuring tool alignment with regulatory changes.
- Ensuring with the support of respective compliance teams that monthly governance meetings are scheduled as per SOP and their minutes are recorded.
- Ensure training of the tool to all the users as necessary, particularly for new users.
- Audit & Risk Assessment: Conduct periodic compliance audits and on-ground assessments across locations to evaluate adherence to applicable laws. Identify compliance gaps, assess legal and operational risks, and recommend corrective and preventive actions. Develop and implement risk matrices, and monitoring frameworks to strengthen internal controls and mitigate potential exposure. Support regulatory inspections and ensure timely closure of audit observations Litigation: Handle Labour, Civil, Criminal and other litigations. Interacting with advocates / counsels for preparing pleadings, replies, affidavits, etc. and also attend court cases as and when required.
- Preparing & Negotiating Agreements, Contracts etc.: Agreements and Contracts like: Business Transfer Agreements, Purchase Agreements, Service Agreements, Non-Disclosure Agreements, Lease Agreements, Leave & License Agreements, MOUs, etc. as and when required.
- Handling day to day legal issues: Provide legal support to all departments of TMGSL, including advice on labour issues, disciplinary proceedings etc.; Assist in audits / inspections; Draft replies to notices / letters received from statutory authorities; etc.
- Projects: Work on specific projects, as assigned, from time to time.
- Trainings: Providing training sessions to the legal team and other departments on various legal topics as needed.
- Digital Platform Management & MIS Reporting: Overseeing the implementation, coordination, and management of existing digital platforms, as well as those introduced in the future, and sharing MIS reports with the legal team and other teams as needed
DESIRED CANDIDATE PROFILE:
Education: LLB/LLM
Relevant Experience:12 – 15 years in handling compliances, litigations, preparing and negotiating agreements, etc.
