Role Summary
We are seeking an experienced Databricks Administrator to manage, secure, and optimize the Databricks platform across AWS and Azure environments.
This role requires strong expertise in Databricks platform administration, Unity Catalog governance, IAM integration, infrastructure-as-code using Terraform, secure networking design, and cost optimization. The position is responsible for ensuring secure multi-cloud operations, governance compliance, and performance efficiency across enterprise-scale data environments.
Key Responsibilities
Databricks Platform Administration
- Manage Databricks account-level configurations and workspace lifecycle.
- Design and administer Unity Catalog (catalogs, schemas, permissions, access policies).
- Configure and govern workspace access controls.
- Implement persona-based permission models for engineers, scientists, and analysts.
- Create and manage clusters, pools, libraries, secrets, and workspace objects.
Governance & Security
- Implement Databricks governance framework with RBAC and policy enforcement.
- Enforce Unity Catalog permission models across environments.
- Integrate SSO using SAML/OIDC authentication mechanisms.
- Configure secure networking patterns (PrivateLink, VNet injection, egress controls).
- Enable cross-account storage access and credential passthrough.
- Maintain audit logging and compliance monitoring frameworks.
Cloud & IAM Integration
- Design and manage AWS and Azure IAM policies.
- Configure:
- AWS IAM roles and policies
- Azure service principals and managed identities
- Manage cross-account and cross-subscription access.
- Implement secure storage access patterns (S3 / ADLS).
Infrastructure as Code (IaC)
- Deploy and manage Databricks resources using Terraform (Databricks provider).
- Automate provisioning of:
- Workspaces
- Unity Catalog objects
- Clusters
- Permissions
- Maintain CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure deployments.
Networking
- Configure and manage VPC/VNet environments.
- Implement Security Groups, NSGs, NACLs, and PrivateLink configurations.
- Design secure network architecture for data workloads.
Job Orchestration & Monitoring
- Configure and manage Databricks Jobs including task dependencies, retries, alerts, and scheduling.
- Implement monitoring, logging, and audit frameworks.
- Track usage metrics and optimize cost governance.
Required Qualifications
Must-Have (Expert Level)
- Unity Catalog architecture and implementation.
- Databricks workspace configuration and access control management.
- AWS/Azure IAM policy design and governance.
- Databricks permissions model and persona-based governance.
Proficient
- Creation of Unity Catalog resources (catalogs, schemas, clusters, pools, libraries, secrets).
- Databricks networking (PrivateLink, egress policies).
- Terraform (Databricks provider).
- SSO integration (SAML/OIDC).
- Monitoring, logging, and cost governance.
Intermediate
- AWS/Azure network configuration (VPC/VNet, Security Groups, NACL).
- Databricks job orchestration.
- Multi-cloud integrations (cross-account storage, credential passthrough).
Preferred Qualifications
- Databricks Certified Administrator.
- Experience in MSP or enterprise-scale platform management.
- Experience in FinOps and cloud cost optimization.
- Experience supporting multiple business units or tenants.
