We are looking for an experienced PostgreSQL DBA to manage and optimise highly loaded PostgreSQL databases handling large volumes of data. The role involves ensuring database performance, availability, scalability, and reliability across self-managed and cloud environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer, maintain, and upgrade PostgreSQL databases across environments
- Manage high-volume and high-traffic databases with large datasets
- Monitor and optimise performance, queries, indexing, vacuum, and auto vacuum
- Define and manage connection thresholds and pooling.
- Implement and manage backup, restore, and disaster recovery strategies
- Design and support replication, read replicas, and high-availability setups
- Understand and apply sharding and partitioning strategies when required
- Manage schema migrations using Alembic
- Understand and evaluate Liquibase vs Alembic usage
- Support PostgreSQL in self-managed (on-prem) and cloud environments
- Good troubleshooting skills.
- Helps in design schema and make sure things are in order.
Required Skills
- 510 years of hands-on PostgreSQL administration experience
- Experience with large-scale, heavily loaded PostgreSQL databases
- Strong knowledge of backup & recovery, replication & HA, performance tuning, and connection management
- Hands-on experience with Alembic
- Working knowledge of Liquibase
- Experience with Linux-based systems
Nice to Have
- Experience with cloud-managed PostgreSQL (Azure / GCP)
- Familiarity with monitoring and alerting tools
- Basic scripting skills (Python / Shell)
