What does a Data Scientist-2 do at Busuu
We are looking for a highly motivated and a self-starter Data Scientist-2, you will play a critical role in shaping data informed decisions at Busuu. Reporting to the Director of Insights & Analytics, you'll collaborate closely with teams across Product, Marketing, and Finance to extract insights, optimise user experience, and drive business growth through data.
We are looking for someone with exceptional data mining, analytical and visualization skills, excellent communication skills along with the ability to work in an on/offshore model. The candidate should possess a strong attention to detail, a high degree of curiosity, and excellent problem-solving skills. They should also demonstrate a strong appetite for working closely with business stakeholders to influence data-driven decision making, and take ownership of the data pipelines that power our key performance dashboards, using the resulting analysis to deliver impactful, actionable business insights.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct in depth analyses to uncover trends, opportunities, and performance drivers across acquisitions and engagement.
Analyse complex data sets using advanced analytical tools and techniques to identify trends, patterns, and insights that drive strategic decision-making.
Provide actionable insights that influence product strategy, marketing investments, and user experience improvements and translate analytical findings into clear recommendations for stakeholders across the business.
Support end-to-end analytics across the customer lifecycle including acquisition, activation, engagement, conversion, retention, and renewals.
Own the development and maintenance of dashboards, reports, and business KPIs in tools like Tableau.
Design and analyse A/B tests and experimentation frameworks to evaluate product features, growth initiatives, and marketing campaigns.
Partner with Product Managers and Marketing teams to understand feature performance and growth opportunities.
Apply statistical techniques and machine learning methods when appropriate to solve business problems.
Communicate insights clearly and concisely to non technical stakeholders through presentations and written reports
Collaborate with analytics engineering to resolve data inconsistencies, define requirements, and improve data reliability.
Support the wider I&A team in prioritising requests and ensuring data informed decision making across the business.
What we're looking for in a Data Scientist-2 (Requirements):
3+ years of experience in data analytics and data science, preferably within a digital product or subscription based business.
Strong SQL skills and experience working with large datasets.
Experience building dashboards and storytelling using Tableau (or similar).
Experience with Python or similar analytical programming languages (pandas, numpy, scikit-learn or equivalent).
Proven ability to deliver actionable insights from large datasets.
Understanding of experimentation techniques and ability to analyse A/B test results.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to turn complex findings into compelling business recommendations.
Strong experience translating data into insights that drive business impact and Ability to present complex analyses in a clear and compelling way to non-technical stakeholders.
A proactive, solutions focused mindset and attention to detail.
Strong stakeholder management skills and experience working cross-functionally with Product, Engineering, Marketing & Finance teams.
Nice to Have
Experience working in a B2B business model.
Experience working in a subscription or freemium model environment.
Familiarity with modern AI tools (e.g., GPT, Gemini, Claude, Cursor, etc.) and the ability to leverage them to accelerate analysis, automate workflows, and improve insight generation.
Experience with statistical models or predictive modelling techniques.
Passion for learning and staying up to date with the latest tools and trends in analytics.
