Job Description – Data Protection SME

Role Title

Data Protection Subject Matter Expert (SME)

Location

Hyderabad / Pune

(Hybrid – Client office presence as per business requirement)

Role Summary

The Data Protection SME will be responsible for leading and governing enterprise‑wide Data Loss Prevention (DLP) and Cybersecurity Risk initiatives. This role requires deep expertise in DLP governance, strong stakeholder management capabilities, and hands‑on experience with leading DLP and data protection technologies. The individual will act as a trusted advisor to business and technology stakeholders, ensuring data protection controls are aligned with regulatory, risk, and business objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Lead DLP governance sessions with internal and client stakeholders, driving alignment on policies, risk posture, and control effectiveness

Define, review, and govern DLP policies and data classification standards across structured and unstructured data

Provide SME‑level guidance on cybersecurity and data protection risk, including identification, assessment, and mitigation of data leakage risks

Collaborate closely with business, legal, compliance, and IT teams to ensure data protection requirements are embedded into business processes

Primary Skills & Experience

Significant experience in Cybersecurity Risk Management and DLP Governance

Proven experience leading DLP governance forums/workshops

Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, including engagement with senior leadership and clients

CISSP certification – Mandatory

Hands‑on experience with at least two (2) or more of the following tools:

Symantec DLP

McAfee CASB

Microsoft Information Protection (MIP) / Data Classification

Secondary Skills

Experience with Cloud Access Security Broker (CASB) solutions

Strong understanding of DLP policy design and enforcement

Broad knowledge of cybersecurity risk, data protection controls, and governance frameworks

Ability to operate independently as a trusted Data Protection SME

Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills

Experience working in regulated or large enterprise environments

Comfortable working in a hybrid model with client‑facing responsibilities
