Job Summary
The Windchill Data Migration Specialist is responsible for planning, executing, validating, and reconciling data migrations into PTC Windchill PLM systems. The role ensures accurate, complete, and compliant migration of legacy PLM, PDM, and engineering data while minimizing business disruption and maintaining data integrity.
Key Responsibilities
Migration Strategy & Planning
- Define data migration strategy, scope, and approach for Windchill implementations, upgrades, or system consolidations.
- Perform data assessment and profiling of source systems (legacy PLM/PDM, Excel, ERP, file systems).
- Identify data quality issues and drive data cleansing and enrichment activities.
- Prepare migration plans, cutover strategies, and rollback plans.
Windchill Data Migration Execution
- Execute migration of Windchill objects including:
- Parts and BOMs (EBOM / MBOM)
- CAD documents and non‑CAD files
- Change objects (ECR, ECO, ECN)
- Documents, specifications, drawings
- Lifecycle states, versions, iterations, and metadata
- Configure and manage migration using:
- Windchill Bulk Migrator
- Windchill Loader / XML Import
- Info*Engine / APIs
- Custom migration scripts and tools
- Ensure correct mapping of:
- Attributes and classifications
- Lifecycles and workflows
- Access control and roles
- Revisions and history
Validation & Reconciliation
- Perform data validation, reconciliation, and sign‑off with business stakeholders.
- Ensure migrated data meets functional, performance, and compliance requirements.
- Track and resolve migration defects and data discrepancies.
Collaboration & Coordination
- Work closely with:
- Business users and SMEs
- Windchill functional consultants
- Development and infrastructure teams
- QA and UAT teams
- Support UAT activities and production cutover.
- Provide post‑migration support and hypercare.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Technical Skills
- Strong hands‑on experience with PTC Windchill data migration
- In‑depth understanding of Windchill data model
- Experience migrating from:
- Legacy Windchill versions
- Other PLM/PDM systems
- File‑based or spreadsheet‑driven systems
- Knowledge of:
- BOM structures and engineering change processes
- CAD integrations (Creo, CATIA, NX, SolidWorks)
- SQL and database querying (Oracle preferred)
- XML, scripting, and log analysis
- Familiarity with ERP integrations (SAP / Oracle preferred)
Soft Skills
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
- Excellent communication and documentation abilities
- Ability to work with cross‑functional global teams
- High attention to detail and data accuracy
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in Windchill upgrade or version‑to‑version migrations
- Large‑scale enterprise PLM migration experience
- Industry exposure to Manufacturing, Automotive, Aerospace, or Industrial domains
