Role Overview
We are seeking a Data Engineer (57 years of experience) with deep expertise in Python, Google BigQuery, and eCommerce data modeling to help design and maintain Naked & Thriving's next-generation data infrastructure.
This role blends strong engineering fundamentals with an understanding of digital commerce and marketing data, to create reliable pipelines, clean data models, and actionable insights.
Once data infrastructure is optimized, the Data Engineer will also support Power BI dashboard development and executive reporting to make performance transparent across the organization.
What You'll Do
Data Engineering & Architecture
- Design, build, and maintain scalable ETL/ELT data pipelines across Shopify, GA4, Klaviyo, Recharge, and marketing channels.
- Develop robust data models in BigQuery, ensuring data is clean, documented, and production ready.
- Write Python code for data ingestion, transformation, automation, and validation tasks.
- Integrate structured and unstructured data sources for analytics and AI/ML readiness.
- Build and maintain data governance processes, ensuring accuracy and consistency across systems.
- Partner with external data vendors and internal teams to stabilize data flows and ensure pipeline reliability.
- Implement monitoring and alerting to detect pipeline issues and maintain uptime.
Analytics & Visualization
- Create clear, automated dashboards in Power BI (and occasionally Looker Studio) once core data architecture is stable.
- Analyze customer journeys, acquisition efficiency, and subscription behavior to inform growth strategy.
- Translate technical outputs into insights that non-technical stakeholders can easily understand.
- Support forecasting, planning, and performance reporting for marketing, finance, and product teams.
What We're Looking For
- 57 years of professional experience in data engineering or analytics engineering (preferably eCommerce or DTC).
- Expertise in Python or similar language and SQL (BigQuery preferred) for large-scale data processing.
- Exposure to modern data modeling tools such as DBT or equivalent frameworks.
- Proven ability to design, build, and maintain pipelines using GCP services (BigQuery, Cloud Functions, Dataflow, Pub/Sub).
- Hands-on experience with GA4, Shopify, Klaviyo, and Recharge data structures.
- Strong understanding of data warehousing, schema design, and query optimization.
- Ability to work autonomously in a startup-style environment problem solving, documenting, and building systems from the ground up.
- Experience developing Power BI dashboards and presenting data visually to drive decisions.
- Excellent communication and critical thinking skills able to bridge technical detail and business outcomes.
What Will Make You Stand Out
- Prior experience in a fast-growing eCommerce or consumer brand environment.
- Knowledge of marketing attribution, cohort analysis, and funnel optimization.
- Familiarity with AI/ML use cases such as predictive modeling, next-best-offer, or churn forecasting.
- Experience setting up event-driven or near-real-time data processing architectures.
