Job Responsibilities

Job Summary

The Cybersecurity Engineer II supports the engineering, operation, and continuous improvement of enterprise security detection and response capabilities, with primary focus on SIEM, EDR, and Managed Detection and Response (MDR). This role operates as an individual contributor within Security Operations Engineering, partnering closely with SOC, Incident Response, and platform teams to improve detection fidelity, investigation efficiency, and response effectiveness.

Core Responsibilities

. Implement, tune, and maintain SIEM detections, analytics rules, and correlation logic.

. Administer and optimize endpoint detection and response (EDR/XDR) platforms.

. Support MDR services by reviewing alerts, escalations, and response quality.

. Integrate security telemetry across endpoint, identity, cloud, network, and SaaS sources.

. Assist in threat hunting and advanced investigations using SIEM and EDR tooling.

. Support incident response activities including analysis, containment, and remediation.

. Develop and maintain detection documentation, runbooks, and operational procedures.

. Contribute to automation and SOAR workflows for enrichment and response.

. Collaborate across security and IT teams on cross-functional security initiatives.

. Evaluate new security tooling and detection capabilities within the environment.

. Provide operational guidance to and oversight of managed server provider technicians.

Qualifications

Education Requirements

Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or related field (or equivalent practical experience).

Experience Requirements

Minimum 3-5 years of relevant cybersecurity or security operations experience.

Additional Qualifications

. Hands-on experience with SIEM platforms such as Microsoft Sentinel or Splunk.

. Hands-on experience with EDR/XDR platforms such as Microsoft Defender, CrowdStrike, or SentinelOne.

. Understanding of incident response lifecycle and MITRE ATT&CK framework.

. Ability to review security alerts, logs, and telemetry to identify and escalate risks.

. Strong analytical, documentation, and communication skills.

. Ability to work effectively both independently and within a team environment.

. Familiarity with common security controls such as IDS/IPS, anti-malware, DLP, and firewalls.

. Exposure to cloud environments (Azure, AWS, or GCP) preferred.

Preferred / Nice to Have

. Experience working with or supporting MDR providers.

. Scripting or automation experience (KQL, PowerShell, Python).

. Exposure to AI-assisted security tooling or behavioral analytics.

. Relevant certifications (Microsoft Security, GIAC, CISSP, GCED).
