About the Role
Crew Manager- Senior Mgt level
Responsibilities
- Overseeing selection of cadets/ TMEs
- Ensuring fulfilment of Training Commitments as per Tonnage Tax scheme if applicable
- Ensuring timely settlement of dues for floating staff
- Identifying talented staff to maintain strong team on all ships, especially critical ships
- Managing Relationship with sea staff to maintain high retention
- Reviewing and handling each complaint, termination, loss of staff and other quality / compliance related issues with respect to FPD
- Participating in interview board for deciding promotion of top 4 ranks
- Scheduling assignments of ex and new officers, ensuring due consideration for vessel type and ship specific requirements
- Ensure verification of applicable wages, standby wages, other payments due and recovering money in letter of assignment
- Monitoring quarterly crew Appraisal reports received from ships and updating records and in co-ordination with CEO take decisions for retention/ re-employment promotion/ training / counselling and ship-board follow up
- Preparing promotion list for officers
- Monitoring P&I claims of officers and ratings, for group of vessels assigned
- Briefing of all officers/ratings joining vessels with ASL policies and system
- Emphasis on training of officers and crew on safety and pollution prevention and company's expectations from them on quality improvement
- Co-ordinating with QHSE department, whenever required for coordination of officers / ratings to attend various training sessions and seminars
- Making periodic visit to the vessels in proximate ports for fleet personnel matters
- Keeping abreast of current crew budgets /crew costs
- Monitoring Rank Balance for future projection / requirement for the fleet of vessels
- Monitoring competitor resources and research market for new developments in the industry on recruitment
- Mentoring of Deck cadets, Engine cadets for future career guidance and counselling
- Liaising between Unions and maintaining upkeep of DGS rules including RPS rules
- Overseeing functioning of the Rest Hours
- Liaising between vessels and shore pertaining to all MLC related queries
- Assisting QHSE department for Audits
- Assisting QHSE department in close follow up of all Non-conformities
- Being in charge of all official communication to the vessel, Agents and technical management offices, consulates, and other offices
- Maintaining direct contact with officers / ratings / supernumerary lined up to join the group of vessels assigned
- Ensuring fair, effective and impartial grievance redressal process for seafarers within the purview of company policies and in compliance with applicable laws and regulations
- Examining promptly and adequately and responding to any complaint concerning its activities and inform the Director-General about any unresolved complaint
- Ensuring that requests for information or advice by families of seafarers while the seafarers are at sea are dealt with promptly and sympathetically and at no cost to the seafarers
- Providing assistance /moral support to seafarer families during medical emergency at home or natural calamity
- Monitoring and providing moral support to seafarers in case of Medical signoffs and hospitalization abroad to ensure entitled medical benefits and regularly updating and assisting families during the crisis times
- Educating seafarers about various welfare aspects including company policies and procedures regarding grievance redressal so as to effectively utilize various welfare systems and facilities
- Debriefing senior officers for evaluation of crew performance and record suggestions for Quality improvement where necessary
- Conducting well-structured Debriefing of seafarers on their experience while working onboard ships so as to resolve reported complaints related to welfare aspects onboard as per the company policies, seafarer's rights and procedures and comprehending feedback and suggestions for continuously improving welfare aspects onboard and on leave
- Ensuring ASL be in close touch with family of Seafarers, during emergency needs and during happy occasions like birthdays and anniversaries
- Overseeing application, obtaining & closure of Crew dispensation with the Flag state
- Performing any other activities as deemed appropriate from time to time
