Costing Manager

Position Overview

The Costing Manager Costing, Estimation & Tendering Specialist is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for Transformers, Modular Data Centers, Core Electrical Systems, MV/HT/LT Panels, EV Chargers, and related electrical products.

The role involves detailed technical analysis, tender evaluation, vendor cost assessment, profitability analysis, and coordination with engineering, procurement, and sales teams to ensure technically compliant and commercially competitive bids.

Key Responsibilities

1 Cost Estimation & Technical Evaluation

Analyse technical drawings, GA layouts, SLDs, specifications, and BOM related project requirements.

Prepare accurate cost estimates covering materials, labour, fabrication, bought-out items, testing, logistics, and overheads.

Develop detailed costing for transformers, compact substations (CSS), modular data centers, MV panels, and core electrical systems.

Evaluate electrical components such as switchgear, copper/aluminum windings, CRGO core, enclosures, busbars, protection systems, cooling systems, and accessories.

2 Tendering & Bid Management

Review tender documents and identify key technical and commercial requirements.

Prepare and submit competitive bids in compliance with client, utility, and regulatory standards.

Coordinate with clients and internal teams for tender clarifications.

Maintain records of estimates, tenders, and bid submissions.

3 Vendor & Material Cost Optimization

Collect and compare vendor quotations for raw materials and bought-out components.

Ensure cost-effective procurement strategies aligned with project requirements.

Maintain updated database of material costs, vendor rates, and historical project data.

4 Profitability & Risk Analysis

Conduct profitability analysis and margin calculations for tenders and contracts.

Perform commercial risk assessment before bid submission.

Monitor cost variances between estimated and actual costs.

Develop cost-control measures to enhance project profitability.

5 Cross-Functional Coordination

Liaise with Engineering, Design, Procurement, Production, and Sales teams to ensure accurate and timely costing inputs.

Support pricing strategy discussions with management.

Provide financial impact analysis of design changes or scope variations.

6 Compliance & Standards

Ensure compliance with IEC, IEEE, BIS, and relevant electrical standards.

Adhere to internal costing policies and contractual obligations.

Ensure all bids meet client specifications and regulatory norms.

Required Technical Expertise

Strong knowledge of Transformer design, materials, and manufacturing processes

Hands-on experience in costing of Modular Data Centers, Core Electrical Systems, MV/HT/LT Panels

Understanding of copper/aluminum costing, CRGO, insulation materials, fabrication, and testing costs

Expertise in cost estimation techniques and tools

Understanding of tendering procedures and contract management

Familiarity with international and Indian electrical standards (IEC, IEEE, BIS)

Required Skills

Advanced proficiency in MS Excel (cost models, formulas, data analysis)

Knowledge of ERP systems and estimation tools

Basic understanding of AutoCAD drawings for costing reference

Strong analytical and financial evaluation skills

Excellent communication and negotiation abilities

Ability to manage multiple tenders simultaneously

High attention to detail and accuracy

Experience Required

510 years of experience in Costing / Estimation / Tendering in electrical manufacturing industry

Proven experience in Transformer, Data Center, or MV Panel costing preferred
