Position Summary
The Cost Controller will be responsible for monitoring, analyzing, and reporting project and operational costs across the organization. This role ensures that financial performance aligns with budgets, forecasts, and corporate objectives. The ideal candidate brings strong analytical skills, business acumen, and experience with cost control in a project-based or consulting environment.
Key Responsibilities
Project & Financial Control
- Develop, maintain, and monitor project budgets and cost forecasts throughout the project lifecycle.
- Track project expenditures, labor hours, and resource utilization to ensure alignment with budgeted targets.
- Prepare monthly project cost reports and variance analyses for management and project leaders.
- Validate cost allocations and ensure accuracy of project-related financial transactions.
Reporting & Analysis
- Produce dashboards and reports summarizing financial performance, cost trends, and profitability by project or client.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities and recommend corrective actions for budget overruns.
- Support monthly and quarterly financial reviews with timely, accurate cost data.
- Contribute to revenue recognition processes by validating project progress and margins.
Governance & Compliance
- Ensure adherence to internal cost accounting standards, policies, and procedures.
- Support internal and external audits by preparing documentation and financial reconciliations.
- Partner with finance, operations, and project delivery teams to strengthen cost control governance.
Process Improvement
- Streamline cost control and reporting processes through automation or tool enhancements (e.g., Power BI, SAP, Oracle, or similar ERP systems).
- Support the continuous improvement of project cost estimation and budgeting methodologies.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field.
- 7+ years of experience as a Cost Controller, Financial Analyst, or Project Controller in a project-driven business (consulting, engineering, IT services, or construction).
- Strong proficiency in Excel and financial modeling; hands on experience with ERP systems (Oracle, SAP, or similar).
- Excellent understanding of project accounting, cost allocation, and revenue recognition.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to communicate complex financial data clearly.
Preferred
- Professional certification (e.g., CMA, CPA, or CIMA).
- Experience with budgeting and cost control processes in multiple currencies or global operations.
- Familiarity with business intelligence/reporting tools (Power BI, Tableau).
