The Server Support Engineer is responsible for the build out, support, maintenance, and troubleshooting of our rapidly changingKey Responsibilities
Architect, deploy, secure, and manage enterprise-scale Active Directory environments (forests, domains, trusts, schema, replication).
Active Directory migrations, consolidations, and upgrades (including cross-forest migrations, domain restructuring, and Azure AD hybrid integration).
Administer and troubleshoot core infrastructure services: DNS, DHCP, WSUS/SCCM/Intune patching, PKI/Certificates, NTP, and file/print services.
Design, implement, and optimize virtualized server environments (VMware vSphere and/or Microsoft Hyper-V).
Manage enterprise storage solutions (SAN/NAS, iSCSI, SMB, RAID configurations) and ensure high availability and performance.
Maintain and renew SSL/TLS certificates, internal PKI hierarchies, and certificate templates.
Perform root cause analysis and resolution of complex infrastructure issues using structured problem-solving methodologies.
Develop and enforce system hardening, patching, backup, and disaster recovery standards.
Collaborate with security, networking, and cloud teams to ensure infrastructure alignment with enterprise standards.
Document architecture, procedures, and runbooks mentor junior engineers.
Required Skills & Qualifications
10+ years of hands-on experience in enterprise Windows server infrastructure.
Deep, proven expertise in Active Directory:
Forest and domain design
Group Policy (GPO creation, filtering, troubleshooting)
AD replication, FSMO roles, tombstoning, metadata cleanup
Migration tools (e.g., Microsoft ADMT, Quest, custom PowerShell)
Azure AD Connect, hybrid identity, and modern auth integration
Strong experience with:
DNS & DHCP (scoping, reservations, failover, security)
Enterprise patch management (WSUS, SCCM, Intune, third-party tools)
Server virtualization: VMware vSphere (vCenter, ESXi) and/or Microsoft Hyper-V
Storage technologies: RAID levels (0,1,5,6,10), SAN/NAS, multipath I/O, disk management
PKI & Certificates: Enterprise CA, certificate templates, auto-enrollment, renewal processes
Backup & DR strategies: Veeam, Commvault, or native Windows solutions
Advanced PowerShell scripting for automation, reporting, and remediation.
Strong understanding of network fundamentals (TCP/IP, VLANs, firewalls, routing).
Demonstrated ability in complex problem diagnosis and resolution under pressure.
Excellent documentation, communication, and cross-team collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Microsoft certifications: MCSE (legacy), Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate, or Azure Administrator Associate
VMware certifications (e.g., VCP-DCV)
Experience with Azure IaaS, Azure Arc, or AWS EC2/Directory Services
Exposure to ITIL frameworks and change management processes
Familiarity with monitoring tools (e.g., SCOM, Zabbix, PRTG, Datadog)
