Role Overview
We'relooking forone to two strong content writerswho can help us educate founders and CPAs about US payroll and compliance across social media, blogs, SEO platforms, and in-product documentation.
This role goes beyond traditional content writing.You'llwork closely with product, compliance, and AI workflows to ensure Surf's content isaccurate,timely, and genuinely useful.
Key Responsibilities
Marketing & Social Content
- Write meaningful, founder-focused content for Surf's social media channels (LinkedIn, Reddit, etc.)
- Create clear, engaging posts that explain payroll, compliance, and product updates
- Adapt tone and format based on platform (LinkedIn vs Reddit vs blog)
Blogs & SEO
- Write in-depth blogs onUS payroll, taxes, and compliance
- Track daily compliance changes across US states and publish relevant updates
- Post and syndicate content on SEO-focused platforms and communities
- Ensure content isaccurate, well-researched, and easy to understand
Product Documentation
- Write andmaintainuser manuals and help articlesas new features are released
- Translate product features into simple, step-by-step guides for users
- Work closely with product and support teams to keep documentation current
AI Content Training & Validation
- Test Surf's AI responses for accuracy and relevance (payroll & compliance)
- Help train and refine AI outputs using curated content and feedback
- Learn and use AI tools to improve content quality and speed (training will be provided)
Required Skills & Qualifications
- 25 years of experience in content writing
- Strong written English (clarity > fancy words)
- Ability to understand and explain complex topics in simple language
- Willingness to research US payroll and compliance topics deeply
- Comfortable learning new tools, especially AI-based content tools
- Fast, proactive, and ownership-driven mindset
- Ability to manage multiple content streams simultaneously
Nice to Have
- Prior experience writing about payroll, compliance, finance, or HR tech
- Experience writing for Reddit or niche online communities
- Familiarity with SEO best practices
- Experience working in early-stage startups
