Job Description

The consultant in Transfusion Medicine provides clinical and administrative leadership to the blood center. They ensure the provision of safe, high-quality blood components and provide expert consultation on complex transfusion therapies, apheresis, and patient blood management.

Job Specification:

  • MBBS from a recognized medical institution with TNMC registration.
  • MD or DNB in Immunohematology and Blood Transfusion Medicine (Fellowship in Transfusion Medicine).
  • Post-MD Experience:Fresher to 5+ years of experience in a large-scale hospital blood bank or a standalone regional blood center.
  • Valid and current license to practice medicine from the relevant National/State Medical Council
  • Full-Time Consultant.
  • Gender: Male or Female
  • Location: Pallikaranai, Chennai.

Job Role and Responsibility:

Key Responsibilities

  • Clinical Consultation: Provide expert advice to clinical teams on the management of patients with complex transfusion needs (e.g., refractory states, massive hemorrhage, or rare phenotypes).
  • Laboratory Oversight: Supervise the technical operations of the blood bank, including immunohematology testing, component preparation, and specialized screening (NAT, ELISA, etc.).
  • Apheresis Management: Lead therapeutic apheresis services (plasmapheresis, leukapheresis) and stem cell collection/processing.
  • Quality & Compliance: Ensure strict adherence to national and international regulatory standards (e.g., FDA, AABB, ISO, or local health authorities). Lead internal audits and quality improvement projects.
  • Patient Blood Management (PBM): Develop and implement protocols for the rational use of blood to reduce unnecessary transfusions and improve patient outcomes.
  • Donor Safety & Hemovigilance: Oversee donor selection, care, and the monitoring of adverse transfusion reactions, ensuring a robust hemovigilance reporting system.
  • Education & Research: Train residents, fellows, and technical staff. Participate in or lead clinical research and keep the institution updated on emerging transfusion technologies.
