We are seeking a highly skilled AVEVA PI Engineer / Consultant with deep technical expertise in the AVEVA PI System, specifically in PI RDBMS integration and PI OPC UA Connector configuration and support.
About the Role
The candidate should be responsible for designing, implementing, configuring, troubleshooting, and optimizing data acquisition and data integration solutions across industrial environments. This role also requires strong hands-on experience with PI Interfaces/Connectors, PI Asset Framework (AF), PI Data Archive, PI Vision, and enterprise integration with RDBMS platforms such as SQL Server, along with robust knowledge of OPC UA-based industrial connectivity.
Responsibilities
- AVEVA PI System Administration & Engineering
- Design, implement, configure, and support AVEVA PI System components including:
- PI Data Archive
- PI Asset Framework (AF)
- PI Vision
- PI Interface/Connector framework
- PI Analytics / Event Frames (preferred)
- Manage PI tag /AF element creation, configuration, archival strategy, compression, exception reporting, and security settings.
- Support PI System upgrades, migrations, patching, and high-availability configurations.
- PI RDBMS Integration
- Design and implement integration between PI System and relational databases such as SQL Server using PI ICU SQL queries, views, stored procedures, and scheduled data extraction.
- Data mapping from RDBMS sources into PI tags / AF attributes.
- Troubleshoot data quality, polling, schema changes, and performance bottlenecks in RDBMS data acquisition.
- PI OPC UA Connector
- Configure, deploy, and support PI OPC UA Connector for secure and reliable acquisition of OT/industrial data.
- Integrate PI with OPC UA servers from PLC/SCADA/DCS systems and third-party industrial platforms.
- Perform:
- OPC UA endpoint configuration
- Certificate management
- Namespace browsing and tag mapping
- Subscription/polling optimization
- Data quality and timestamp validation
- Troubleshoot connectivity issues related to:
- Network/firewall
- OPC UA certificates
- Security policies
- Trust stores
- Session/subscription failures
- Optimize connector performance for large-scale industrial deployments.
- Support, Troubleshooting & Documentation
- Perform root cause analysis for PI data flow, connector failures, stale tags, and database ingestion issues.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation like IQP/OQ.
- Work closely with OT, automation, infrastructure, cybersecurity, and application teams for integration and issue resolution.

- Strong understanding of PI tag configuration, digital states, buffering, archive behavior, and data collection strategies.
- Knowledge of PI security, mappings, trusts, identities, and service account management.
- PI RDBMS Expertise
- Strong practical experience in PI RDBMS Interface.
- Advanced SQL skills: complex queries, joins, views, stored procedures, performance tuning.
- Experience integrating PI with enterprise databases and transactional systems.
- Understanding of schema design, timestamp handling, polling intervals, and incremental data extraction techniques.
- PI OPC UA Expertise
- Strong experience configuring and supporting PI OPC UA Connector.
- Deep understanding of:
- OPC UA architecture
- endpoints, sessions, subscriptions
- certificates and trust chains
- security modes and policies
- namespace handling
- Experience integrating industrial data from PLC/DCS/SCADA systems via OPC UA into PI.
- Additional Technical Skills
- Windows Server administration knowledge.
- Familiarity with networking fundamentals, firewalls, DNS, ports, and service troubleshooting.
- Knowledge of scripting/automation using PowerShell.
