Job Description
WSP is seeking an enthusiastic, creative, and delivery-oriented candidate who has practical experience with GIS and a profound interest in GIS technologies and updates. Consultant GIS will assist with data management and mapping activities related to Contanimnated lands, Environmental Planning, Ecology and Environmental Impact Assessment, Archaeology, Heritage, Indigenous Relations and other environmental investigations projects [MM1] . Responsibilities include production of cartographic report figure, tabular data summaries, editing, maintaining, and managing spatial datasets in both the web and desktop environments. The Assistant GIS Consultant, works under the supervision of intermediate and senior GIS staff. All deliverables produced shall comply with WSP Canada standards and procedures, as well as provincial regulations, standards and guidelines
Responsibilities
The role would involve:
- Plot, edit, and analyze spatial components of various projects using ArcGIS Pro and other components of the ArcGIS Suite, including ArcGIS Online
- Preparing maps, drawings, figures, sketches, charts and presentation posters for use in proposals and reports;
- Participate in 2D and 3D GIS data analysis, file management, database management, spatial data capture, georeferencing, structuring and integration into GIS data themes;
- Convert GIS data between multiple file formats;
- Report to and review project work with senior GIS personnel;
- Work collaboratively with staff from other WSP offices, as required to meet project and client needs;
- Communicate and operate in a professional and courteous manner with team members, Project Managers, and clients;
- Perform other administrative and technical duties as required;
- Understand sources and availability of authoritative spatial data for use on projects, both through WSP's maintained data warehouse and through government and authority data sources.
- Understand and maintain file directory structure per WSP Canada operational standards
- Perform quality reviews to ensure geospatial and content accuracy.
- Proactively identify improvements to enhance the company's GIS service to clients.
- Attend to team and project needs as required, and respond within agreed timeframes.
- Provide regular work status updates, including risks or concerns, to line manager.
- Develop own expertise and stay abreast of developments in GIS technologies.
- Ensure that Health & Safety is embedded into all work practices in accordance with company policies.
Key Competencies / Skills:
Mandatory Skills
- Ability to perform routine spatial analysis, digitizing, collection, and consolidation of project data;
- Understanding of datums and projections and the processes to convert between spatial references
- Perform routine calculations;
- Efficient data entry skills
- Basic knowledge of the web GIS Environment (ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Enterprise), ability to manage data therein and create and / or maintain field data collection solutions in Field Maps and / or Survey123.
- Demonstrated proficiency of GIS tools such as ArcGIS suite, ArcGIS Pro, AGOL, and Microsoft Office Suite
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
- Ability to work in a very dynamic and demanding work environment.
- Should possess good interpersonal skills, good team player with an innate ability to motivate colleagues to give of their best.
- To be flexible and adaptable in the range of work undertaken and deliver it with enthusiasm.
- To be self-motivated.
- Ability to work independently with minimal oversight.
Desired Skills
- CAD experience desirable.
- International experience is preferred.
Qualifications
With a degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline (GIS), a member of a relevant professional institution or will have demonstrable experience. Knowledge and experience of the following is essential:
- Looking for experienced professional with more than 5 years of experience
- Knowledge and experience in successful data management.
- Proven track record in GIS.
