Job Description

Job Description: Junior Consultant / Consultant – Cement Manufacturing & Ready Mix Concrete (RMC) Industry

Experience Level: 10–15 Years

Role Type: Consulting & Industry Transformation

Specialization: Process Excellence & Digital Solutions

Role Overview

We are seeking a highly experienced Consultant specializing in Cement Manufacturing and Ready Mix Concrete (RMC) operations to drive transformational initiatives across process optimization, digital integration, and operational excellence. This role is designed for seasoned professionals with 10–15 years of hands-on experience in cement/RMC operations, consulting, or industrial transformation, who can seamlessly bridge technical expertise with strategic advisory capabilities.

The successful candidate will operate across consulting engagements and Client transformation programs, delivering measurable impact through deep domain knowledge, advanced digital solutions (ERP, MES, APS, Analytics, Industry 4.0), and proven stakeholder management skills.

This position demands a balanced mastery of cement plant operations (quarry to dispatch), RMC production systems (batching, logistics, quality control), and technology-enabled solutions that enhance productivity, sustainability, and profitability.

Key Responsibilities

1. Process Excellence & Operational Optimization

  • End-to-End Value Chain Optimization: Lead initiatives across the complete cement manufacturing value chain—from quarry management, raw material preparation, pyro-processing, grinding, packing, and dispatch—identifying inefficiencies and implementing best practices.
  • RMC Operations Enhancement: Optimize ready mix concrete batching plant operations, including mix design accuracy, automated dosing systems, slump monitoring, logistics fleet management, and delivery optimization to minimize workability loss.
  • Plant Performance Improvement: Drive performance optimization, fuel efficiency, alternative fuel utilization, clinker quality control, and reduction of thermal/electrical energy consumption across cement plants.
  • Quality Systems & Standards: Implement robust quality management systems, statistical process control (SPC), and compliance frameworks aligned with ISO standards, NRMCA certifications, and regulatory requirements.
  • Sustainability & Emissions Reduction: Design and execute strategies for carbon footprint reduction, clinker substitution, low-carbon mix formulations, waste heat recovery, and alignment with net-zero targets.

2. Digital Solutions & Industry 4.0 Implementation

  • Technology Roadmap Development: Architect and implement digital transformation strategies integrating ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning), MES (Manufacturing Execution Systems), APS (Advanced Planning & Scheduling), and quality management systems across cement and RMC facilities.
  • Advanced Process Control (APC) & Analytics: Deploy AI-powered optimization solutions for kiln control, predictive maintenance, real-time quality monitoring, and production analytics to enhance operational efficiency and reduce downtime.
  • IoT & Sensor Integration: Lead implementation of IoT-enabled monitoring systems for moisture sensors, slump tracking, temperature control, GPS fleet management, and automated batching accuracy in RMC plants.
  • Digital Twin & Simulation: Leverage digital twin technologies for plant modeling, scenario analysis, and predictive performance optimization across production and supply chain operations.
  • Data-Driven Decision Making: Establish dashboards, KPI frameworks, and analytics platforms to enable real-time operational visibility and continuous improvement culture.

3. Consulting & Advisory Services

  • Diagnostic Assessments: Conduct comprehensive operational diagnostics, benchmarking studies, gap analyses, and maturity assessments to identify improvement opportunities across cement/RMC operations.
  • Solution Design & Business Case Development: Design tailored solutions addressing client challenges in process efficiency, cost reduction, capacity expansion, digital adoption, and sustainability. Develop robust business cases with ROI analysis, risk assessment, and implementation roadmaps.
  • Change Management & Stakeholder Engagement: Lead organizational change initiatives, ensuring alignment across cross-functional teams (operations, maintenance, quality, IT, finance) and securing buy-in from executive leadership to frontline workers.
  • Project Management & Delivery: Manage consulting engagements and transformation projects from inception to closure, ensuring delivery within scope, budget, and timeline while maintaining high-quality standards.
  • Knowledge Transfer & Training: Develop training programs, SOPs, and capability-building frameworks to ensure sustainable adoption of new processes and technologies.

4. Supply Chain & Logistics Optimization

  • Fleet & Logistics Management: Optimize RMC delivery logistics using AI-driven route planning, GPS tracking, and predictive traffic management to ensure on-time concrete delivery within workability windows.
  • Inventory & Material Management: Streamline raw material procurement, inventory optimization, and vendor management for aggregates, cement, admixtures, and supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs).
  • Supply Chain Digitalization: Implement end-to-end supply chain visibility platforms to reduce logistics costs and improve responsiveness.

5. Safety, Compliance & Risk Management (Optional)

  • Safety Excellence: Champion occupational health and safety (OHS) programs, MSHA compliance, hazard identification, and incident prevention across plant operations.
  • Environmental Compliance: Ensure adherence to environmental regulations, emissions monitoring, dust control, and wastewater management standards.
  • Risk Mitigation: Identify operational, technical, and financial risks; develop mitigation strategies; and ensure business continuity planning.

Required Skills & Competencies

Functional & Technical Expertise

  • Cement Manufacturing Process Mastery: Deep understanding of cement production technologies (dry/wet process, vertical/rotary kilns, grinding circuits, alternative fuels, quality parameters like LSF, SM, AM).
  • RMC Operations Knowledge: Expertise in concrete batching technologies, mix design optimization, admixture chemistry, rheology control, and 3D printing concrete formulations.
  • Digital & IT Systems: Hands-on experience with ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, Frappe), MES platforms (ABB Ability, Siemens), SCADA, PLC/HMI systems, and cloud-based analytics tools.
  • Data Analytics & AI: Proficiency in data analytics, machine learning applications, predictive maintenance models, and performance optimization algorithms.

Consulting & Business Skills

  • Strategic Thinking: Ability to connect operational challenges to business strategy, competitive positioning, and long-term value creation.
  • Business Case Development: Proven capability to build financial models, ROI analyses, NPV calculations, and investment appraisals for capital projects and transformation initiatives.
  • Stakeholder Management: Exceptional ability to engage, influence, and align diverse stakeholders—from C-suite executives to plant operators—across cultural and geographical boundaries.
  • Change Leadership: Expertise in change management methodologies and driving organizational adoption of new processes and technologies.
