About Compliance

The Compliance department assists the Board and Top Management in managing the compliance risk, that is, the risk of legal or regulatory sanctions, financial loss or reputational loss that the Bank may suffer as a result of its failure to comply with the applicable laws, regulations or code of conduct applicable to banking activities. It ensures strict observance of all statutory provisions in various legislations such as Banking Regulation Act, Foreign Exchange Management Act, Prevention of Money Laundering Act, Reserve Bank of India Act, etc. as well as the regulatory guidelines issued from time to time, the standards and codes prescribed by BCSBI, FEDAI, FIMMDA, etc. and also the Bank's internal policies and fair practice code

AbouttheRole

The Head TBML leads the Bank's framework for identifying, assessing, and mitigating Trade-Based Money Laundering risks across import, export, trade finance, and cross-border remittance channels. The role provides strategic direction, ensures regulatory compliance, enhances system-based controls, and drives governance for TBML monitoring in alignment with global best practices and RBI/FIU-IND expectations. The position serves as the key SME (Subject Matter Expert) on TBML for senior management, regulators, and internal stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Establish and oversee the Bank's TBML Risk policy and Frameworks covering customer onboarding, documentation review, transaction monitoring, and post-transaction analysis.
  • Oversee quality assurance, periodic reviews, and thematic assessments of trade portfolios to identify gaps and recommend corrective actions.
  • Lead TBML risk assessments for trade and cross-border products, identifying emerging typologies and high-risk patterns.
  • Drive enhancements to system-based s, rule engines, and analytics for detecting anomalies such as circular trade, over/under-invoicing, third-party payments, and unusual trade flows.
  • Review high-value or sensitive trade transactions and provide expert advisory to business, operations, and compliance teams.
  • Lead regulatory submissions, including STRs related to TBML, FIU-IND communication, and responses to supervisory observations.
  • Develop and maintain risk assessments SOP/ checklists, risk typologies, and escalation protocols for trade and cross product products.
  • Conduct capacity-building and training programs for trade teams, relationship managers, compliance units, and branch staff.
  • Coordinate with Product, Compliance, Operations, and Risk teams to strengthen governance and implement system/process controls.
  • Engage with senior leadership and regulatory bodies on material TBML risks, emerging threats, and control enhancement initiatives.

Qualifications

Optimal qualification for success on the job is:

  • Graduate / Post-graduate in Commerce, Finance, Economics, or Business Management.
  • 10-15+ years of banking experience with strong exposure to trade finance, AML, financial crime compliance, or investigations.
  • In-depth knowledge of FEMA/RBI Trade Guidelines, ICC rules (UCP, URC, ISP), SWIFT, and global TBML frameworks (FATF Guidance on TBML).
  • Certifications preferred:

Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS)

Trade Finance Professional (CTFP) / CDCS

Certifications in Sanctions, TBML, or Financial Crime Compliance

Role Proficiencies:

  • Expertise in trade finance processes, end-to-end documentation, and cross-border flows.
  • Strong analytical skills to identify complex trade patterns, structuring, layering, and unusual fund movements.
  • Proficiency in AML systems, rule tuning, disposition, and data analytics.
  • Deep understanding of global TBML red flags, sanctions risks, dual-use goods, and high-risk jurisdictions.
  • Ability to translate risk insights into practical controls, SOPs, and system enhancements.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management for working with senior management, product teams, compliance, and regulators.
  • High level of integrity, judgement, and decision-making capability in handling sensitive cases.
