Job Description

Job Title: Commvault Backup Administrator

Location: Mumbai

Role Overview

The Commvault Backup Administrator is responsible for managing and maintaining enterprise backup solutions using Commvault software. This role requires 3-5 years of experience in backup administration, focusing on ensuring data protection, recoverability, and compliance with organizational policies.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Backup Management:
  • Actively monitor the health of the backup environment to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
  • Manage backup policies, jobs, schedules, and retention policies to meet organizational requirements.
  • Perform ad hoc backups as requested and ensure all servers under scope are backed up as scheduled.
  • Troubleshoot backup failures and implement fixes provided by the backup software vendor.
  • Validate and deploy new versions of backup software and patches to maintain system integrity and security.

Data Restore and Recovery:

  • Perform data restores from the backup solution as required.
  • Conduct periodic restores to ensure recoverability of backups and validate disaster recovery readiness.

Capacity and Utilization Management:

  • Monitor backup storage utilization and manage capacity effectively.
  • Provide recommendations for upgrades and improvements to the backup environment.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain and update configuration documentation to ensure compliance with best practices.
  • Provide daily and ad hoc backup reports, including executive summaries of backup successes and failures.
  • Perform periodic backup audits to identify gaps in the backup methodology.

Vendor Collaboration:

  • Work with vendors to address backup issues and implement fixes.
  • Collaborate with field services and software vendors to resolve technical issues with backup software agents.

Required Skills and Qualifications

Technical Expertise:

  • Proficiency in Commvault backup software, including configuration, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of backup methodologies, retention policies, and disaster recovery processes.
  • Familiarity with enterprise storage solutions and integration with backup systems.

Experience:

  • 3-5 years of experience in backup administration, preferably with Commvault.
  • Hands-on experience in managing backup environments in enterprise settings.

Certifications (Preferred):

  • Commvault Certified Professional.
  • ITIL Foundation Certification.

Soft Skills:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication and collaboration abilities.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Perform support (break/fix) tasks related to backup systems.
  • Actively track backup logs for errors and notify about backup failures.
  • Maintain and provide information for audits and compliance requirements.
