Job Title: Commissioning Lead – Green Ammonia & Hydrogen Process Plant

Job Summary

The Commissioning Lead – Process Plant is responsible for leading and managing all commissioning activities for process facilities, ensuring systems and equipment are safely and efficiently brought into operation. This role oversees planning, execution, and coordination of commissioning phases, ensuring compliance with project specifications, safety standards, and operational readiness.

Key Responsibilities

1. Commissioning Strategy & Planning

  • Develop and implement the overall commissioning strategy, procedures, and schedules.
  • Review engineering documents (P&IDs, datasheets, layouts) for commissioning requirements.
  • Define systematisation, subsystem breakdown, and commissioning priorities.
  • Coordinate with project management to align commissioning milestones with construction progress.

2. Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead and manage a multidisciplinary commissioning team (process, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation).
  • Assign responsibilities and ensure competency of team members.
  • Interface with contractors, vendors, and client representatives.
  • Promote a strong safety and performance culture.

3. Execution of Commissioning Activities

  • Oversee pre-commissioning, commissioning, and start-up activities.
  • Ensure proper flushing, cleaning, pressure testing, loop checking, and functional testing.
  • Supervise initial plant start-up and performance testing.
  • Ensure readiness for handover to operations.

4. HSE & Compliance

  • Ensure all commissioning activities comply with HSE policies and regulations.
  • Conduct risk assessments (HAZOP, HAZID, SIMOPS).
  • Implement permit-to-work systems and safe work practices.
  • Lead incident investigations and corrective actions if required.

5. Documentation & Reporting

  • Ensure preparation and review of commissioning procedures, method statements, and checklists.
  • Maintain commissioning dossiers and handover documentation.
  • Track progress and provide regular reports to senior management and stakeholders.

6. Interface & Coordination

  • Coordinate with engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) teams.
  • Liaise with operations and maintenance teams for smooth handover.
  • Manage vendor support during commissioning and troubleshooting.

7. Troubleshooting & Optimization

  • Identify and resolve process and equipment issues during commissioning.
  • Optimize plant performance and ensure systems meet design intent.
  • Support ramp-up to full production capacity.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering, Process Engineering, or related field.
  • 20–25+ years of experience in process plant projects (Ammonia & hydrogen plants, oil & gas, petrochemical, power, etc.).
  • Minimum 5–10 years in a leadership/managerial commissioning role.
  • Proven experience in large-scale EPC projects and plant start-ups.

  • Familiarity with international standards (API, ASME, ISO)

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Safe completion of commissioning activities (zero incidents)
  • Adherence to project schedule and milestones
  • Successful plant start-up and performance test completion
  • Quality of documentation and handover
  • Minimal rework and operational issues post-handover

Qualification & Experience

B.Tech , MBA (preferred) carrying more than 20 years of exp.
