Claims Specialist at ZeroNorth

As a member of the Maritime claims and performance team in the Professional Services, you will contribute to delivering world-class technical expertise as an individual contributor to Vessel Performance projects and tasks.

We are seeking a highly analytical and resilient person to join our team. In this role, you will act as the critical bridge between data analysis, commercial operations, and customer relations. You will be responsible for investigating complex maritime claims related to vessel speed and fuel consumption and also support internal teams in enhancing the claims service offered and our in-house performance monitoring tool.

The ideal candidate possesses deep technical or commercial maritime knowledge, thrives in a fast-paced and high-pressure environment, and can confidently navigate pushback during customer disputes.

Key responsibilities:

  • Claims Management: Investigate, analyze, and manage claims related to vessel speed, fuel consumption, and overall performance under charter party terms.
  • Customer Engagement: Engage with customers confidently, handling pushbacks and technical disputes regarding performance claims with professionalism and authority.
  • Data Analysis: Review vessel performance data, ensuring compliance with contractual obligations and commercial benchmarks.
  • Product Development: Support in-house product development and testing, providing expert insights to enhance performance monitoring tools.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Collaborate with internal teams (Product, Commercial, Legal) and external stakeholders (Charterers, Owners) to ensure data-driven claim resolutions.
  • Reporting: Prepare detailed reports and technical documentation to support claim negotiations and dispute resolution processes.
  • Subject Matter Expertise: Provide expert guidance on vessel performance issues, ensuring customers receive the best support and analytical insights.
  • Performance Under Pressure: Work efficiently under a high workload and heavy stress environment, prioritizing tasks effectively while maintaining quality output.
  • Autonomy: Work independently, taking ownership of tasks and delivering solutions with minimal supervision.
  • Mentorship and process enhancement: Leverage experience to help junior team members to improve efficiency and output. Assist the manager in administrative tasks and streamlining current operative processes.

Your profile:

  • Minimum 2+ years of experience in handling claims related to time charter parties and vessel performance.
  • Educational background in Marine studies such as Marine Engineering or Deck Officer, with strong understanding of technical and legal aspects of charter party claims.
  • Alternatively, experience working closely with teams managing charter party underperformance claims for merchant vessels.
  • Hands-on experience in analyzing vessel performance, especially related to speed, fuel consumption, and commercial benchmarks.
  • Strong expertise in report creation and data analysis, with the ability to support customers and internal teams on charter party performance and claims resolution.
  • Ability to manage assigned tasks efficiently, ensuring accuracy and timely delivery.
  • Proficiency in BI tools, MS Office, and Google Suite for tracking claims, creating reports, and managing databases.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, along with strong time management and a self-motivated approach to handling multiple stakeholders in a fast-paced environment.
