POSITION--Chief Operating Officer – Digital Energy Solutions

Overview

The Chief Operating Officer (COO) for Digital Energy Solutions (DES) will be responsible for leading and strengthening all operational aspects of the business across India and the Middle East, ensuring scalable, high‑performance delivery for digital and grid‑modernization initiatives.

The role focuses on operational leadership, regional execution excellence, and the delivery of mission‑critical digital, automation, and grid intelligence solutions for electric utilities, transmission companies, distribution utilities, and integrated energy players.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Strategic & Regional Leadership
  • Shape and execute DES's long‑term strategy with a focus on regional market growth across India and the Middle East.
  • Drive regional operating models, partnerships, and local execution frameworks tailored to utility and regulatory environments.
  • Identify expansion opportunities in advanced grid technologies, SCADA/EMS/DMS/ADMS, smart metering, microgrids, DER management and digital utility transformations.
  1. Operational Excellence Across Regions
  • Oversee end‑to‑end operational performance, including solutions development, project delivery, and service quality across multiple geographies.
  • Establish standardized processes to ensure delivery consistency across India and MEA utility clients.
  • Lead digital transformation efforts inside operations using automation, analytics, and modern delivery practices.
  1. Electric Utilities Client & Stakeholder Management
  • Build deep and trusted relationships with transmission utilities (STUs/TSOs), distribution utilities (DISCOMs), IPPs, EPC partners, and regulatory bodies.
  • Ensure high customer satisfaction through dependable delivery of grid‑modernization solutions and post‑deployment services.
  • Represent DES in regional forums, regulatory discussions, and strategic client engagements.
  1. Financial & Commercial Management
  • Develop and manage P&L, operating budgets, and resource planning for regional operations.
  • Improve cost efficiency, project profitability, and working capital performance across business lines.
  • Evaluate commercial models for multi‑country deployments, long‑term utility programs, and SaaS/managed services offerings.
  1. People Leadership & Organizational Development
  • Lead, mentor, and scale cross‑functional teams across engineering, product, delivery, regional operations, customer success, support, and field services.
  • Build regional talent pipelines and succession plans for operational and technical leadership roles.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, agility, and innovation.
  1. Regulatory, Compliance & Governance
  • Ensure operations adhere to local regulations, utility standards, cybersecurity norms, and safety guidelines across India and MEA.
  • Stay current on evolving energy policies, utility reforms, market mechanisms, and digital compliance requirements.
  1. Risk, Quality & Programme Assurance
  • Build robust governance mechanisms to mitigate technical, operational, delivery, commercial, and cybersecurity risks.
  • Lead quality assurance, audit readiness, and adherence to international standards (IEC, IEEE, NERC/CIP, ISA/IEC 62443, etc.).
  1. Executive Reporting & Communication
  • Provide insights to the CEO/Board on regional performance, financials, delivery health, and strategic priorities.
  • Maintain clear communication channels with internal and external stakeholders across regions.

Educational Qualifications & Background

Essential

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or a related engineering discipline.
  • 15–25 years of experience in the Electric Utilities / Transmission & Distribution / Digital Grid / Energy Technology sectors.
  • Proven leadership experience in regional operations spanning India and/or Middle East.
  • Strong domain expertise in at least two of the following:
  • Transmission & Distribution networks
  • Substation automation & protection
  • SCADA, EMS, DMS, ADMS
  • Smart metering & AMI
  • Renewable integration / DERMS
  • Utility analytics, IoT, and digital platforms

Preferred

  • Master's degree in Power Systems, Energy Management, Business Administration (MBA), or similar.
  • Experience leading end‑to‑end EPC‑linked digital programs for utilities.
  • Strong understanding of Indian & Middle East utility regulations (CEA, CERC/SERC, GCC utility norms, MEA T&D codes).

This role ensures operational excellence, delivers customer‑centric digital solutions, and strengthens DES's presence and reputation across India and the Middle East.
