To enable this transformation, Presidency University has invested in the state-of-the-art NVIDIA DGX H200 System - a top-tier GPU and HPC ecosystem.

The Chief AI Officer will be responsible for designing and operationalizing Presidency University's AI transformation.

Key Responsibility Areas

1. Strategy and Mission

  • Collaboratively work with the University Leadership Team to articulate and champion a coherent Charter for CAIIR, long-term academic vision for AI across the University
  • Translate the CAIIR's Charter into actionable academic programs, research themes, initiatives and partnerships
  • Ensure AI is positioned as an integrative intellectual framework across disciplines with a distinctive focus on interdisciplinary applications

2. Academic Imperative

  • Guide the design and evolution of interdisciplinary AI curricula
  • Support innovative pedagogical approaches involving AI
  • Foster AI literacy and engagement across the University and beyond, particularly non-technical domains

3. Research Excellence

  • Lead the development of interdisciplinary AI research and innovation
  • Mentor select faculty members and doctoral researchers
  • Secure research funding and partnerships for translational research in AI

4. Capability Development

  • Attract, develop and retain high-quality AI faculty and researchers
  • Enable joint appointments and interdisciplinary academic pathways
  • Collaborate with leadership across domains to build new competences

5. Stewardship of AI Research Environments

  • Ensure that AI-Infrastructure supports academic depth, curricular experimentation and interdisciplinary work across the University and beyond
  • Formulation of Policies on the deployment of AI environments for research
  • Engage with Industry, Business, Government to extend and leverage the AI Platform and Intellectual Capital of the University for consulting solutions

6. External Engagement

  • Promote CAIIR in national and international forums
  • Build partnerships with Academia, Research Labs and Government Agencies
  • Contribute to public and policy discourse on Responsible AI and Societal Imperatives aligned with the National Mission

7. Expected Impact (35 years)

  • Establish interdisciplinary AI education and research ecosystem
  • Recognition of the University as an AI-Centric academic and research institution
  • Domain Expertise and Contribution in select focus areas (e.g. Material Science / Quantum Materials, Logistics, Healthcare, Finance)

Essential Qualifications

  • Ph.D. from reputed University/Institute in Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, or related interdisciplinary domain with substantial AI research contributions
  • Demonstrated domain expertise with intellectual breadth to foster collaboration across disciplines for institutional impact

Experience

  • Experienced Professor with leadership responsibilities in recognized Academic Schools/Research Centres, or, as Director/Senior Leadership role in large AI Research/Application Organizations
  • Research Supervisor with 2-3 Ph.D. Theses / Industry AI Research Projects
