The Junior Checker requires the ability to read and interpret contract drawings, check 3D models, drawings, and reports to be released for fabrication. Requires knowledge of American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC), American Welding Society (AWS), The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and National Institute of Steel Design (NISD) standards. Experience in structural steel and architectural/miscellaneous detailing is a must.
Roles and Responsibilities
Perform structural steel detail checking to ensure the drawings conform to the specifications, engineering requirements, AISC standards, and operational specific specifications
Must comply with the requirements of the design drawings and all industry standards and protocols, such as those established by AISC, AWS, and comply with current OSHA and NISD guidelines
Provide technical assistance to the Modelers and Detailers
Thorough and proficient with creating RFIs while capable of providing solutions to fabricators
Provide sketches, plans, designs, and layouts as necessary
Provide detailing solutions to address various field fixes as they may arise throughout the fabrication and installation of the steel
Assist the team with any drawing support required to complete the drawing approval, fabrication, or erection process to ensure excellence
Communicate complex and technical application issues to non-technical parties verbally and/or written
Communicate effectively with team, project managers, fabricators, and erectors
Ability to read and comprehend construction plans and specifications
Qualifications And Technical Competencies
Bachelor's/Diploma degree of civil or mechanical engineering is required - work experience in SDS2/TEKLA may substitute as an equivalent to a Bachelor's/Diploma degree
1-5 years of experience in steel detailing on SDS2/TEKLA is a must
Working knowledge of AISC codes, OSHA, and other standards are a must
Strong experience in reading and interpreting structural/architectural design drawings
Strong knowledge of steel manufacturing, steel erection, and shop fabrication process
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, plans, and specifications
Basic mathematics including geometry and trigonometry
Knowledge of welding specifications
