Job Description

The University of Patanjali (UOP), located near the tranquil Himalayan foothills in Haridwar, Uttarakhand, is named after Maharshi Patanjali, the sage who compiled the first aphorisms on Yoga around 900 BC. Established under Uttarakhand State Legislature Act No. 4/2006 and approved by the UGC, UOP is sponsored by Patanjali Yogpeeth Trust and affiliated with the Association of Indian Universities.

The University of Patanjali, Haridwar, has been officially recognized as a Cluster Center under the Gyan Bharatam Mission, Ministry of Culture, Government of India. The recognition was conferred for marking a significant milestone in the University's contribution to the preservation, conservation and dissemination of India's manuscript heritage.

Job Profile for Centre Coordinator

The Centre Coordinator shall be responsible for overall coordination, management, and execution of activities under the Gyan Bharatam Mission Cluster Center at the University of Patanjali. The role involves academic, technical, administrative and operational responsibilities related to manuscript heritage.

  • Nature of Appointment: Contractual
  • Contract Period: 01 Year (extendable on project requirements)
  • Remuneration: 60,000/- per month (Consolidated)
  • Location: University of Patanjali, Haridwar

Eligibility & Experience

  • Postgraduate degree in Manuscriptology / Sanskrit / Indology / Library & Information Science / Archival Studies / Conservation Science or allied disciplines from a recognized university.
  • Minimum 10 years of professional experience in:
  1. Manuscript preservation and conservation
  2. Curation and collection management
  3. Manuscript cataloguing and documentation
  4. Technical and digitization-related work
  • Demonstrated experience in handling ancient and rare manuscripts
  • Exposure to national or institutional manuscript missions/projects is preferred.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Scope of work includes, but is not limited to the following:

  • Coordinate and supervise activities related to manuscript preservation, conservation, curation, cataloguing and digitization.
  • Plan and implement conservation strategies for ancient and rare manuscripts using approved scientific and traditional methods.
  • Oversee cataloguing and documentation of manuscripts as per national and institutional standards.
  • Manage technical workflows including digitization, database management, digital repositories and quality control.
  • Ensure proper storage conditions, handling procedures and environmental controls for manuscript collections.
  • Coordinate with scholars, conservators, cataloguers, technical staff and external experts.
  • Prepare and submit periodic progress reports, documentation and records required under the Gyan Bharatam Mission.
  • Assist in audits, inspections, monitoring visits and review meetings conducted by funding or monitoring agencies.
  • Organize training programmes, workshops and capacity-building activities related to manuscript studies.
  • Facilitate academic research, scholarly access and outreach initiatives in accordance with institutional guidelines.
