Position

Primary title: Consultant Ophthalmologist (Cataract & VitreoRetinal Specialist) On-site, Nellore, Andhra Pradesh

Role & Responsibilities

  • Perform high-quality cataract surgeries using phacoemulsification and manage complex cataract cases to maintain excellent visual outcomes and low complication rates.
  • Plan and execute vitreoretinal procedures including pars plana vitrectomy and MIVS for retinal detachment, diabetic TRD, macular surgery, and other posterior segment disorders.
  • Provide medical retina services: diagnose and manage AMD, diabetic macular oedema, RVO and other retinal vascular diseases using intravitreal therapies and retinal imaging-guided care.
  • Interpret retinal imaging (OCT, FFA) to guide treatment decisions and document clinical findings in patient records and outcome registries.
  • Lead perioperative clinical pathways: pre-op assessment, informed consent, postoperative follow-up, complication management, and discharge planning.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (anaesthesia, nursing, optometry) to maintain surgical throughput, enforce safety protocols, and contribute to continuous quality improvement.

Skills & Qualifications

Must-Have

  • MBBS with MS/DO in Ophthalmology or equivalent higher clinical qualification
  • Fellowship or formal training in VitreoRetinal surgery or Medical Retina
  • Active registration with the relevant Indian medical council/state medical board
  • Demonstrable operative experience in phacoemulsification and posterior segment surgery
  • Proficiency in OCT and fluorescein angiography interpretation for retina diagnostics
  • Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

Preferred

  • Experience with 23G/25G/27G MIVS platforms and advanced vitreoretinal instrumentation
  • Prior experience working in high-volume cataract or tertiary retina centres
