Job Description

Job Title: Career Counsellor

Location: Hyderabad

Department: Student Support Services / College & Career Guidance

Reports To: Head of School / Secondary Principal / Director of Student Services

Job Summary

The Career Counsellor guides students in exploring academic and career pathways, preparing for post-secondary education, and making informed decisions about their future. The role involves personalized counseling, university application support, career readiness programs, and collaboration with families and faculty to support each student's aspirations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Career Guidance & Planning

Assist students in identifying career interests, strengths, and goals through one-on-one counseling and assessments.

Guide students in choosing academic subjects aligned with career and university pathways (e.g., IB, IGCSE, A-Levels).

Organize and deliver workshops on career exploration, resume building, job interview skills, and future planning.

  • University & College Counseling

Support students with university and college application processes globally (USA, UK, Canada, EU, Asia, etc.).

Provide guidance on admissions requirements, application timelines, personal statements, and recommendation letters.

Help students register for standardized tests (SAT, ACT, IELTS, TOEFL, etc.) and ensure readiness.

  • University Relations & Events

Build and maintain relationships with university representatives and admissions officers.

Organize university fairs, campus visits, and informational sessions for students and parents.

Stay current with changes in international university admissions trends, policies, and requirements.

  • Documentation & Record Keeping

Maintain accurate student records related to career interests, counseling sessions, and university applications.

Prepare school profiles, recommendation letters, and other supporting documentation as needed.

Track alumni destinations for reporting and future guidance planning.

  • Parent & Staff Collaboration

Communicate regularly with parents to update them on student progress and guide them through post-secondary planning.

Work closely with academic staff to align academic programs with student goals.

Provide professional development or training sessions for faculty on supporting students career readiness.

Qualifications & Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Psychology, Counseling, Education, or a related field.

Certification in career or college counseling is preferred.

Minimum 3 years of experience in school counseling or university guidance, preferably in an international school.

Strong knowledge of international university systems (IB, Cambridge, American, etc.).

Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.

Fluency in English; other languages are a plus.

Preferred Attributes

Familiarity with university application platforms (e.g., Common App, UCAS, OUAC, Coalition, etc.).

Culturally sensitive with the ability to work effectively in a diverse, international school community.

Proficient in using counseling software, tracking tools, and career assessments.

Passionate about student development and future-readiness.

Working Hours

Full-time, Monday to Saturday.

May require occasional evening or weekend availability for parent meetings, events, or university sessions
