Key Responsibilities:
Market & Opportunity Development
- Identify and evaluate new business opportunities in the defense and aerospace sectors
- Track tenders, RFPs, and defense procurement pipelines from MoD, DRDO, DPSUs, and other agencies
- Build strategic plans for market penetration in key defense verticals (land systems, naval, aerospace, electronics, etc.)
Client & Stakeholder Management
- Build and maintain strong relationships with government stakeholders, defense OEMs, PSUs, and system integrators
- Represent the company in industry events, exhibitions (e.g., DefExpo, Aero India), and networking forums
- Lead negotiations and proposal presentations to customers
Bid Management & Proposal Development
- Lead end-to-end bid management including EOI, RFI, RFP, and tender responses
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (engineering, commercial, legal) to develop techno-commercial proposals
- Ensure compliance with defense procurement norms (DPP/DAP), offset policies, and tender guidelines
Strategic Partnerships & Alliances
- Identify and evaluate potential joint ventures, MoUs, or strategic alliances with Indian and foreign defense firms
- Work with internal leadership on Make in India, IDDM, and indigenization initiatives
Reporting & Market Intelligence
- Maintain CRM tools and dashboards to track leads, funnel status, and closures
- Monitor competitor activity and evolving defense policy trends
- Report sales forecasts, performance metrics, and key business indicators to senior leadership
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Defense Studies, or related field
- MBA/PGDM in Marketing, Strategy, or International Business preferred
- Defense background (retired armed forces personnel with BD experience) is a strong advantage
Experience:
- 712 years of experience in business development/sales in defense, aerospace, or government contracting
- Familiarity with defense procurement processes, MoD structures, and regulatory landscape
- Proven track record in handling large defense bids and client accounts
Key Skills:
- Strong understanding of Indian defense procurement systems (DAP, MAKE-II, Buy Indian, etc.)
- Excellent relationship-building and client engagement skills
- Strategic thinking and solution-oriented sales approach
- Good written and verbal communication skills (especially for proposal writing)
- Proficiency in MS Office, CRM, and government e-procurement portals
