Job Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and technically proficient BigQuery Project Administrator with 3+ years of experience on Google Cloud Platform (GCP), specifically BigQuery. This role focuses on project and cost governance, query optimization, and performance improvements. You will collaborate closely with engineering, architecture, and finance teams to ensure efficient, scalable, and cost-effective use of BigQuery resources.
Key Responsibilities:
Optimization & Performance Tuning
- Analyze query patterns, access logs, and usage metrics to recommend schema optimizations (partitioning, clustering, materialized views)
- Identify opportunities to improve BigQuery performance and reduce storage/computation costs
- Collaborate with engineers to refactor inefficient queries and optimize data workloads
Project & Cost Governance
- Monitor and manage BigQuery project structures, billing configurations, quotas, and resource usage
- Implement and enforce cost control measures, quotas, and budget alerts
- Create regular reports on usage, cost trends, and anomalies for stakeholders
Collaboration & Support
- Serve as a bridge between engineering and finance teams for BigQuery-related planning and decisions
- Support onboarding of new teams into the BigQuery environment
- Provide training and guidance on best practices and cost-efficient usage
Best Practices & Compliance
- Define and advocate for BigQuery usage standards and best practices
- Ensure adherence to data governance, security, and privacy policies
- Maintain documentation on project setup, governance workflows, and optimization strategies
Qualifications:
- 3+ years of hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP), with a focus on BigQuery
- Strong understanding of SQL, data warehousing, and cloud cost management
- Experience with GCP billing, IAM (Identity and Access Management), and resource configuration
Preferred Certifications:
- Google Cloud Professional Data Engineer
