Job Description BI Operations Analyst (MicroStrategy)
Role Overview
We are looking for a BI Operations Analyst with strong hands-on experience in MicroStrategy and solid SQL analysis skills. The role involves operational reporting support, incident management, enhancements, user administration, and coordination of maintenance activities to ensure smooth BAU (BusinessasUsual) operations.
Key Responsibilities
1. Operational Reporting Activities
- Perform daily validation of reports and dashboards to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Manage scheduled report distributions and adhere to standard SOP-driven workflows.
- Monitor reporting jobs and proactively address failures.
2. Incident & Callout Resolution
- Conduct SQL-based analysis to troubleshoot data issues, incident tickets, and user callouts.
- Identify root causes by analyzing backend tables, joins, data loads, and report-level logic.
- Coordinate with data engineering and upstream/downstream teams to ensure timely resolution.
3. Enhancements & Change Requests
- Work with business users to gather requirements for enhancements to existing MicroStrategy reports.
- Develop and update public objects, schema objects, metrics, filters, prompts, and other components.
- Perform unit testing and validations before deployment.
- Deploy updates to higher environments using Object Manager (Package creation & deployment) through the defined CR process.
4. MicroStrategy Administration
- Manage user creation, user provisioning, access controls, and security roles.
- Handle subscription setup, modifications, and troubleshooting for automated deliveries.
- Maintain folder structures, object governance, and version consistency across environments.
5. Maintenance & BAU Continuity
- Coordinate planned maintenance activities involving MicroStrategy servers, cubes, caches, and backend data sources.
- Work closely with data, integration, and infra teams to minimize disruptions to BAU reporting.
- Monitor and optimize performance of reports, dashboards, and datasets.
Required Technical Skills
- Strong experience in MicroStrategy, including:
- Public & Schema Objects
- Grid Reports
- Report Services Documents (RSDs)
- Dossiers & Visualizations
- Object Manager (Package creation, migration, deployment)
- Subscriptions handling
- User creation & user access management
- Good knowledge of SQL for incident analysis, debugging, and backend data validations.
- Understanding of BI operations, report scheduling, job failures, and root-cause analysis.
- Experience working in CR-driven environments with structured testing and deployment cycles.
Good to Have
- Knowledge of performance tuning for BI reports.
