JD of Resources
An Operational Resident may perform the following over the duration of the engagement:
Administration: Monitors, reviews, and manages DT Services infrastructure.
Manages user requests.
Manages and reviews log files.
Generates regular operational reports.
Problem Management: Isolates and troubleshoots incidents.
Performs service incident coordination.
Opens service requests on behalf of the Customer.
Participates in root cause analysis review.
Change Management: Performs software/firmware management assistance and
collaboration.
Implements change management requests.
Assists with the solution documentation of policies and procedures in conjunction with
the compliance manager(s) and with other key stakeholders.
Manages migration activities (monitor reports).
Continual Service Improvement: Recommends procedure changes that result in
operational optimization.
Shares best practices from other engagements.
Provides performance tuning recommendations.
Work on custom DPA reports
Following are some of task details in specific to Backup Operations: -
Application of Patch/ Bugfixes of Networker Master Server/Storage Node/Data Domain/ECS
Cloud Storage software only in cases wherein it has been suggested by technical support
whenever there is an impact on Networker.
Onsite team will troubleshoot the backup failures after coordinating with the client's
concerned IT teams.
Provide improvement Suggestions/ Inputs on parameters that can affect backup operations &
Backup performance.
Creation/Modification of Backup workflows for Various Networker Supported Operating
System clients.
Configuration of Tape Library drives/clone devices on master & Storage Node servers
wherever applicable.
Distribution of backup jobs across master & Storage Node servers.
Successful Catalogue/Meta Data DB backups to be performed daily basis.
Media Requirement to be shared with respective library teams to ensure no backup failures
because of media un-availability if it is applicable.
Ensure Drive visibility at Networker Level for all backups to avoid any backup failures.
Support Team to log call with Technical Support and share the case id with DELL Onsite
Team to resolve Backup/Other Networker issues.
Monitor, update and track help desk tickets till resolution.
Internal Use - Confidential
RCA given by DELL Tech support in cases wherein an issue is identified at Backup Tool level
need to be translated to specific Client environment and given to the Client. In case the RCA
points out issues pertaining to OS, Library, Tape Drive, Storage etc, support team to chase
respective vendors until resolution.
Monthly SLO meetings with Client Management and quarterly SLO presentation to the
Client's top Management.
Onsite Team to participate in Business Continuity Plan (BCP) drill which Client may
conduct from time to time. Client should inform the DELL Onsite team about the Planned BCP
drill at least one (1) week in advance in order to ensure onsite resource coverage.
Daily Tasks
Backup Job Monitoring
DS onsite team will monitor backup jobs to ensure all backups are running as scheduled. Any
backup job queued longer than required will be immediately acted upon.
Incident Response
DS onsite team will monitor backup jobs on daily basis and start troubleshooting immediately
upon noticing a failed backup job. Onsite team will work on resolution for each issue and ensure
backups are re-run, scheduled jobs to complete within the day's schedule. And work with
Client's team for user backups/scheduled backups
Interaction with Client's Operations Team:
The DS Consultant and Tech Lead will be involved in attending Client team meetings as per plan
to provide additional details from the Networker Backup Solution and Data Domain environment
incident information.
Incident Handling and Incident Management for Backup Solution
Onsite team will perform Incident Handling and Management tasks for all components of the
Backup solution. This includes components and solutions like Third Party Dedupe appliances,
VTLs, Tape Library etc. If a problem has been reported or found to have been caused by a "Non-
Dell" component of the Backup infrastructure DS Team will liase with the appropriate Third-
party vendor until the problem is resolved by them and Backup/Restore operations are
successful.
Onsite Consultant will be involved in periodic tasks related to review of resource usage backups
speed, drive utilization, client throughput, Data Domain/Cloud Storage utilization, Disk System
Storage Unit (DSSU) utilization, Backup window utilization and escalations as required to the
appropriate Client contact
Troubleshooting and working with Support:
Consultant will troubleshoot failures with respect to backups and log calls through telephone or
email with Technical Support as necessary to identify solutions to observed limitations in
NetWorker Backup solution as long as Client has valid Support license, and the requested
product version is supported.
DS Team will monitor, update and track such issues to resolution, take assignment of tasks
required for gathering information, provide translation of RCA given by Technical Support
Internal Use - Confidential
and/or Clients other operations teams, to the Client's environment, and provide periodic updates
to the Client.
Consultant will provide specific compatibility data as requested/required by the Client for
various systems related patches, firmware updates, OS/security updates.
