Role Overview
The Azure Administrator will be responsible for managing, monitoring, and supporting Microsoft Azure infrastructure. This role includes provisioning resources, ensuring security and compliance, monitoring performance, troubleshooting issues, and supporting application and DevOps teams.
1. Azure Infrastructure Management
- Provision and manage Azure resources including Virtual Machines, Storage Accounts, Virtual Networks, Load Balancers, and App Services.
- Configure and manage Azure subscriptions, resource groups, and management groups.
- Perform capacity planning and resource optimization.
- Implement and manage Azure availability solutions such as Availability Sets and Availability Zones.
2. Identity & Access Management
- Manage Azure Active Directory (Azure AD) users, groups, roles, and permissions.
- Implement Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) and least privilege access.
- Configure Conditional Access, MFA, and identity protection policies.
- Integrate on-premises Active Directory with Azure AD (AAD Connect).
3. Networking
- Configure and manage Azure Virtual Networks (VNETs), Subnets, NSGs, and Route Tables.
- Set up VPN Gateway, Site-to-Site VPN, Point-to-Site VPN, and ExpressRoute.
- Configure Azure Load Balancer, Application Gateway, and Azure Firewall.
- Troubleshoot network connectivity and performance issues.
4. Compute & Storage Administration
- Deploy, configure, and maintain Azure Virtual Machines (Windows/Linux).
- Manage disk types, snapshots, backups, and VM scaling.
- Configure Azure Storage services (Blob, File, Queue, Table).
- Implement Azure Backup and Azure Site Recovery (ASR) for DR.
5. Monitoring, Backup & DR
- Monitor Azure resources using Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and Alerts.
- Analyze performance metrics and logs to identify and resolve issues.
- Implement backup policies and disaster recovery strategies.
- Perform regular DR drills and recovery testing.
6. Security & Compliance
- Implement Azure security best practices and governance.
- Configure Azure Security Center / Microsoft Defender for Cloud.
- Manage secrets and certificates using Azure Key Vault.
- Ensure compliance with organizational and regulatory standards.
7. Automation & Optimization
- Automate routine administrative tasks using PowerShell, Azure CLI, or ARM/Bicep templates.
- Assist DevOps teams with infrastructure readiness and environment support.
- Optimize Azure costs using Cost Management and budgets.
- Support Infrastructure as Code (IaC) initiatives.
8. Troubleshooting & Support
- Provide L2/L3 support for Azure related incidents.
- Troubleshoot VM, networking, storage, and identity issues.
- Coordinate with Microsoft support for critical issues.
- Document procedures, configurations, and best practices.
