Automation Engineer - Role Summary
As an Automation Engineer, you will design, develop, integrate and support industrial control systems and SCADA solutions. You will work across software and hardware disciplines, collaborate with onsite teams and clients, and support commissioning, troubleshooting and documentation activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop functional design documents including control write-ups and control schematics.
- Perform SCADA and interface programming, and integrate SCADA with PLCs/DDCs, routers and gateways.
- Create hardware and software design specifications, test documentation and O&M manuals.
- Design control panels and instrumentation, prepare drawings and method statements.
- Carry out software modifications and troubleshooting remotely or on-site.
- Support site testing, commissioning and provide post go-live support and training to users.
- Estimate project costs and coordinate system engineering deliverables across the project lifecycle.
- Monitor device changes, investigate change reasons and conduct periodic vulnerability assessments.
- Collaborate with process engineering and quality teams to identify process improvement opportunities and drive implementation.
- Maintain clear communication with cross-functional teams and stakeholders on project status and operational improvements.
Required Qualifications & Functional Requirements
- Degree or Diploma in Electrical, Electronics, Instrumentation or Computer Engineering.
- Minimum 34 years of relevant experience in industrial control systems (pharma industry experience is a plus).
- Strong experience in control systems architecture, hardware & system software, HMI, PLC and data acquisition.
- Experience in panel design and instrumentation design.
- Experience with site testing, commissioning, system training and preparing O&M documentation.
- Ability to support systems remotely (remote computer access) and provide phone support to onsite operations.
- Proficiency with MS Windows and MS Office applications.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and coordinate with operational staff, client managers, vendors and contractors.
Technical Knowledge (Preferred)
- Familiarity with major PLCs: Siemens, Allen Bradley, Schneider, GE Fanuc, Omron, Mitsubishi.
- Experience with major SCADA platforms: Siemens SIMATIC WinCC, Wonderware InTouch, Mitsubishi MC Works 64, Citect, ClearSCADA, iFix, Cimplicity.
- Knowledge of communication protocols: Modbus (including Modbus X), Profibus, ASCII, DNP/DNP3, and SCADA communication data flow.
- Exposure to RTU/EFM devices and other SCADA-related field devices.
- Experience writing software in C/C++/C# and familiarity with Oracle and PL/SQL is desirable.

- Understanding of SCADA system processes and communication data flow.
- Experience in conducting vulnerability assessments and documenting findings.
- Strong presentation and stakeholder communication skills for both one-on-one and group settings.
