Job Description

Audio Engineer (AI Training)

About The Role

What if your trained ears could directly shape how AI hears, generates, and understands sound We're looking for skilled Audio Engineers to critically evaluate AI-generated audio — from speech synthesis and music production to sound effects and post-production — and provide expert feedback that trains the next generation of AI audio systems.

This is a fully remote, flexible contract role. No AI or machine learning background required — just sharp ears, solid technical knowledge, and a passion for audio quality.

  • Organization: Alignerr
  • Type: Hourly Contract
  • Location: Remote
  • Commitment: 10–40 hours/week

What You'll Do

  • Listen critically to AI-generated audio outputs — including speech, music, and sound effects — and evaluate them for quality, naturalness, and technical accuracy
  • Identify artifacts, distortions, timing issues, tonal inconsistencies, and unnatural elements in generated audio
  • Provide structured, detailed feedback on mix quality, frequency balance, spatial characteristics, and clarity
  • Rate and compare audio samples using clear evaluation criteria
  • Suggest targeted improvements to help AI produce more realistic, professional-grade audio
  • Work independently and asynchronously — fully on your own schedule

Who You Are

  • Trained ear with professional or semi-professional audio engineering experience
  • Solid grasp of core audio concepts: EQ, compression, reverb, stereo imaging, gain staging, and signal flow
  • Comfortable critically evaluating audio across genres and formats — voice, music, and SFX
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to articulate technical observations clearly in writing
  • Experienced with at least one DAW (Pro Tools, Logic, Ableton, Reaper, or similar)
  • No prior AI or machine learning experience required

Nice to Have

  • Experience in mixing, mastering, sound design, or post-production
  • Background in music production, podcasting, film audio, or broadcast
  • Familiarity with audio file formats, sample rates, and bit depths
  • Knowledge of psychoacoustics or audio perception research

Why Join Us

  • Work on cutting-edge AI audio projects alongside leading research labs
  • Fully remote and flexible — work when and where it suits you
  • Freelance autonomy with the structure of meaningful, task-based work
  • Shape how AI understands, produces, and refines sound at a fundamental level
  • Potential for ongoing work and contract extension as new projects launch
