Job Title: AVP – Engineering (Merchant Payments )
Location: Gurgaon
Role Overview:
We are looking for an experienced engineering leader to build and scale our merchant payments ecosystem, covering transaction processing, payouts, settlements, and reconciliation platforms.
This role will drive high-scale, reliable, and compliant systems that power merchant acquiring, payment processing, and financial flows, while also supporting device-led integrations (POS/Soundbox) as one of the channels.
The ideal candidate will have strong experience in payments architecture, high-throughput systems, and merchant lifecycle platforms, along with proven leadership in scaling engineering teams.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Merchant Payments Platform Ownership (Core Focus)
- Own end-to-end architecture for merchant payment systems, including:
- Transaction processing (UPI, cards, wallet, gateway)
- Payouts (merchant disbursals, vendor payments)
- Settlement & reconciliation systems
- Build and scale high-throughput, low-latency systems handling large volumes of financial transactions.
- Ensure accuracy, idempotency, and reliability in financial flows across systems.
- Design systems for T+0 / T+1 settlements, split settlements, and multi-party flows.
2. Payouts, Settlement & Reconciliation
- Own engineering for merchant settlement engines, including:
- Settlement calculations
- Fee/commission handling
- Reconciliation (bank, partner, internal ledger)
- Build robust ledgering systems for transaction tracking and audit trails.
- Ensure real-time visibility into merchant balances, settlements, and payouts.
- Partner with finance and ops teams for exception handling and reconciliation workflows.
3. Payments Architecture & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with PCI-DSS, RBI guidelines, and payment regulations.
- Drive secure and scalable payment orchestration layers.
- Work closely with risk and compliance teams on fraud detection, transaction monitoring, and audit readiness.
4. Merchant Ecosystem & Integrations
- Build scalable merchant onboarding, KYC, and lifecycle systems.
- Enable integrations with:
- Payment partners (banks, networks)
- Gateways and aggregators
- Internal fintech products
- Support multi-channel merchant acceptance (POS, QR, app, APIs) — with devices as one channel, not the core.
5. Engineering Leadership
- Build and scale high-performing teams across backend, platform, and payments engineering.
- Define engineering roadmap aligned with merchant growth and revenue goals.
- Establish best practices for scalability, observability, and system reliability.
6. Cross-functional Collaboration
- Partner with Product, Business, Finance, Risk, and Operations teams.
- Drive data-driven decision-making using transaction, settlement, and merchant metrics.
Requirements:
- 12–18 years of engineering experience, with strong exposure to payments / fintech platforms.
- Proven experience in building transaction systems, payouts, settlements, or ledger platforms.
- Strong understanding of:
- Payment systems (UPI, cards, gateway)
- Settlement and reconciliation flows
- High-scale distributed systems
- Experience in merchant acquiring / payment gateway / fintech ecosystem.
- Strong backend expertise (Java, Kotlin, or similar) and system design capabilities.
- Experience managing large engineering teams (20+ members).
- Understanding of PCI-DSS, RBI guidelines, and financial compliance frameworks.
