Job Description:

The Associate Professor in the Department of English will be responsible for teaching, research, and service to the institution. They will teach courses in English literature, writing, and communication, and engage in research activities that contribute to the academic and intellectual life of the college. Additionally, they will provide service to the department, college, and community.

Responsibilities:

  • Teaching: Conducting classroom lectures, leading seminars, and facilitating workshops.
  • Curriculum development: Developing and revising curriculum in accordance with the departmental and institutional standards.
  • Research: Engaging in research activities and publishing research papers, articles, or books in leading journals and academic presses.
  • Mentoring students: Providing guidance, support, and mentorship to students, advising them on academic and career goals.
  • Service: Participating in departmental committees, contributing to the college's governance and community, and representing the college to external audiences.
  • Professional development: Engaging in professional development activities to stay up-to-date on the latest teaching, research, and technological trends in the field.
  • Collaboration: Collaborating with colleagues within the department and across the institution to foster an inclusive, interdisciplinary, and innovative environment.
  • Outreach: Engaging with external communities through various initiatives and programs, such as public lectures, cultural events, and community service.

Qualifications:

  • A Ph.D. in English literature or a related field
  • A strong record of research and publication
  • Teaching experience at the undergraduate and/or graduate level
  • Demonstrated expertise in one or more of the following fields: British literature, American literature, postcolonial literature, gender studies, critical theory, creative writing, linguistics, or rhetoric and composition
  • Experience with innovative and effective pedagogical practices
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and to engage in service activities for the department, college, and community
