Purpose of the Role

Associate editors perform a brief assessment of the article to determine where to route the article (free, deferred for paid editing, deferred for editing from a third party, rejected). It is very important that an accurate assessment is performed, and the article is routed down the appropriate path in order to prevent issues later in the publication process. Excellent time management and broad scientific competence are key aspects of this role.

Responsibilities

  • Ability to assess articles for scientific accuracy, compliance with our editorial policies, and suitability for peer review
  • Work within the in-house online system to claim, review article submissions, while also communicating with fellow editors, editorial management, and authors
  • Demonstrate a strong familiarity with the in-house formatting requirements and style guide to ensure consistency that increases credibility
  • Promptly respond to emails from fellow editors and management

Experience, Skills & Qualifications

  • Educated to PhD level (or equivalent) in Business/Management/Economics
  • Good communication skills with excellent written English
  • Excellent organizational ability and time-management skills
  • Self-starter with a positive, can-do approach to problem-solving
  • Ability to complete allocated tasks and work to (often competing) deadlines
  • Ability to work cooperatively with colleagues at all levels and as part of a team
  • Meticulous approach to your work and an eye for detail
  • Comfortable learning and working with new technology
