Associate Director – Impact Assessment

Delhi NCR (with travel as required)
Role Summary
We are seeking an experienced Associate Director to provide strategic and technical leadership for Impact Assessment work within the Economics and Public Policy team at PwC. The role involves leading complex economic, social, and programmatic impact engagements, shaping client mandates, and driving the growth of the Impact Assessment practice across public sector, multilateral, and private sector clients.
The Associate Director will be responsible for overall engagement leadership, client relationship management, technical oversight across projects, people leadership, and business development, working closely with Partners and Directors to scale the practice.
Key Responsibilities
1. Engagement Leadership & Technical Oversight
- Provide overall leadership on large and complex impact assessment, impact evaluation, and social/economic valuation engagements.
- Set technical direction across projects, ensuring appropriate evaluation design, analytical rigour, and methodological robustness.
- Guide teams on advanced application of econometric, statistical, and evaluation approaches (e.g., quasiexperimental methods, contribution analysis, mixedmethods evaluations, SROI where relevant).
- Ensure quality, consistency, and credibility of highstakes outputs including flagship reports, policy papers, and seniorlevel presentations.
2. Client Leadership & Strategic Advisory
- Serve as trusted advisor to senior clients across government, PSUs, multilaterals, donors, and large corporates.
- Lead strategic conversations on impact measurement, evidencebased policymaking, programme design, and value for money.
- Translate technical impact findings into strategic insights and decisionoriented recommendations for senior policymakers and CXOs.
- Build and manage longterm client relationships, including identifying followon opportunities.
3. Practice Development & Business Growth
- Lead business development efforts for impact assessment and evaluation work, including shaping proposals, EOIs, technical approaches, and pricing strategies.
- Support development and institutionalisation of new service offerings (e.g., impact evaluation frameworks, social value measurement, outcomebased financing support).
- Contribute to thought leadership, market positioning, and visibility of PwC's Impact Assessment capabilities.
- Support Partners and Directors in defining the strategic direction and growth roadmap for the Impact Assessment practice.
4. People Leadership & Capability Building
- Provide leadership and mentorship to Managers and broader teams, supporting capability development and progression.
- Ensure strong quality assurance across teams through structured reviews, coaching, and feedback.
- Build internal capability in impact assessment tools, evaluation standards, and analytical approaches, aligned with global best practices.
- Foster a highperformance, inclusive, and collaborative team culture.
Required Qualifications & Experience
Education
- Postgraduate degree in Economics, Public Policy, Development Studies, Statistics, Social Sciences, Public Health, or related fields.
Experience
- 12–15+ years of relevant professional experience in consulting, advisory, government, multilateral, or development sector organisations, with 2-4 experience in managerial roles.
- Demonstrated experience leading largescale impact assessments, impact evaluations, or social/economic valuation assignments.
- Proven track record of client leadership and business development in impact, policy, or economicsfocused consulting.
- Prior experience in Big 4 firms, global consulting organisations, multilateral agencies, or reputed policy/impact advisory institutions is strongly preferred.
Technical Skills
- Deep expertise in impact evaluation methodologies, research design, and applied data analysis.
- Strong understanding of quantitative methods (econometrics, statistical and survey analysis), with the ability to guide teams on complex analytical work.
- Ability to oversee and interpret analysis conducted using Stata, R, Python, SPSS, or Excel.
- Strong understanding of public policy, social sector programmes, CSR/ESG impact measurement, and/or large public investments and infrastructure.
