Job Title: Associate Director Insights and Analytics
Purpose of the role
- The person in this role is expected to re-design and rationalize the Analytics, Technology, Architecture and Data. We are seeking a Lead VP Insights and Analytics to join the CIB I&A team withing the CIB DA. The person will play a key part in using the power of data to solve problems, improve efficiency and generate actionable insights to support the business operations within Wholesale. The person will work closely with business stakeholders and other data professionals to develop and implement data-driven solutions for various bank wide use cases.
In This Role, You Will
Principal Accountabilities and Responsibilities (e.g., for Business, Customers and Stakeholders; internal control environment, etc.)
- Cascades business strategy and operational goals gaining commitment to them
- Guides and supports management team through periods of change
- Provides clear direction and sets performance targets for business unit team managers
- Pre-dominant specialist may oversee and support a number of senior specialists
- Build and leverage deep relationships with senior leaders to understand key strategic issues and imperatives, define opportunities, prioritise and meet demand.
- Demonstrate excellent communication and stakeholder management capabilities; the power to motivate, influence and engage audiences across group and at all levels throughout the business; the ability to make the complex simple and inspire action through analytics and insight.

Leadership & Teamwork
- Develop innovative and impactful data-based tools and models for propensity modelling and risk mitigation, continuously evaluate the effectiveness of models and make recommendations for improvements.
- Extract, transform, and load (ETL) from various sources, ensuring data quality, accuracy and integrity. Design and optimize data pipelines, ensuring efficient data extraction, storage and processing.
- Conduct in-depth analysis of complex transactional and demographic datasets to identify patterns for identifying risk and opportunities.
- Extract and integrate data from external sources, such as public databases, social media platforms and third-party vendors to enhance advanced analytics capabilities.
- Contribute to innovation initiatives and overall analytics strategy under the wholesale data science and analytics head.
- Advocate and promote the use of data science to drive fact-based activity and behavior in wholesale banking globally.
- Engage various stakeholders to understand and collect project requirement, present analysis and or results, make recommendations on strategy formulation and solicit project feedback
- Work with and leverage solutions and approaches developed by the wider HSBC Analytics community.
- Keeping up to date on the latest advanced analytics and big data technologies. Engage with academia on shared research topics related to new trends in advanced analytics.
To Be Successful You Will
- Good to have knowledge of Banking domain use cases with specific applications to data science problems.
- Decision-making to plan and implement the change
- Governance support to ensure change is communicated, adheres to best practices and evidence decision-making appropriately
- Active in the wider industry with strong contacts and connections in both academia and commerce; an industry voice within the analytics space
- Data analytics tools such as Python, Spark, and HadoopTrack record of developing successful Analytics functions delivering actionable insights
- Track-record of developing and implementing strategy for growing evolving a new capability
- Track-record of managing deliveries of data heavy programmes of work.
- Track-record of leading Agile multi-disciplined teams to deliver exceptional customer service and value
- Track-record of delivering analytics within Financial Institutions
- Experience in delivering in a highly regulated environment
- Knowledge of MLOps and ML engineering pipelines preferable
- University degree in Computer Science, Finance, Statistics, Mathematics or any other quantitative related discipline, PhD degree in a quantitative field is highly preferred. C.A/C.F.A. will be added advantage.
- 12+ years of relevant experience, preferably in banking and financial services sector
- Strong knowledge and experience with machine learning techniques and algorithms. Experience with cloud analytics platforms such as GCP, Azure and AWS and big data platforms such as Hadoop, Spark, etc.
- High technical aptitude, problem solving abilities, intellectual curiosity, motivation, and passion for data discovery
- Open minded and self-motivated with good communication and interpersonal skills as well as strong sense of responsibility
- Experience in commercial bank is a plus but not necessary
- Attention to details, with good communication, presentation and leadership skills
- Contribute to innovation initiatives and overall data science strategy under Insights and Analytics Function
- Advocate and promote the use of data science to drive fact-based activity and behaviour in wholesale banking globally.
- Keeping up to date on the latest advanced analytics and big data technologies. Engage with academia on shared research topics related to new trends in advanced analytics.
- Good to have experience leading and delivering applications leveraging Gen AI tools and APIs.
