Job Summary:
The AGM – Procurement (Square Billets) is responsible for strategic sourcing, procurement planning, and supply assurance of carbon steel square billets from domestic and international markets. The role involves vendor development, commercial negotiations, import sourcing, risk management, and alignment with production requirements while ensuring cost competitiveness, quality compliance, and supply continuity.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Strategic Procurement & Sourcing
- Lead end‑to‑end procurement of square billets to meet rolling mill / manufacturing requirements.
- Develop sourcing strategies for domestic and import billets based on cost, availability, quality, and logistics.
- Monitor billet demand planning in coordination with production, sales, and PPC teams.
2. Domestic Procurement
- Identify, onboard, and manage domestic billet suppliers / integrated steel plants.
- Negotiate pricing, contracts, delivery schedules, and credit terms.
- Ensure consistent billet quality as per chemical composition, size tolerances, and internal quality norms.
3. International Procurement (Imports)
- Source square billets from global markets
- Handle import contracts, Incoterms (CFR/CIF), LC terms, and shipment planning.
- Coordinate with CHA, shipping lines, banks, inspectors, and insurance agencies.
- Ensure compliance with customs, DGFT, BIS, and trade regulations.
4. Price Trend Analysis & Market Intelligence
- Track global and domestic billet price trends, scrap prices, iron ore, freight, and forex movements.
- Analyze market risks and recommend buying windows and hedging strategies where applicable.
- Maintain strong market intelligence through mill relationships, traders, and industry networks.
5. Quality Assurance & Technical Coordination
- Ensure billet procurement complies with IS / ASTM / EN standards as per rolling requirements.
- Coordinate inspections, third‑party testing, and certification (MTCs).
- Handle quality deviations, claims, and supplier corrective actions.
6. Cost Optimization & Risk Management
- Drive cost reduction initiatives through supplier negotiation, mix optimization, and import/domestic balancing.
- Manage supply risks related to market volatility, logistics disruptions, and regulatory changes.
- Maintain emergency sourcing plans and buffer strategies.
7. Vendor Relationship & Performance Management
- Build long‑term partnerships with suppliers and traders.
- Evaluate vendors on cost, quality, delivery, and reliability.
- Lead supplier reviews, audits, and contract renewals.
8. Leadership & Governance
- Guide and mentor junior procurement and logistics team members.
- Ensure adherence to company procurement policies, ethics, and compliance standards.
- Prepare and present procurement MIS, budgets, forecasts, and management reports.
Qualifications:
Education
- BE / B.Tech in Metallurgy / Mechanical / Production Engineering
- MBA / PGDM in Materials Management / Supply Chain / Operations
Experience
- 15-20 years of experience in steel raw material procurement
- Minimum 5–7 years in a senior procurement or leadership role
- Strong experience in square billet sourcing from both domestic and international markets
